One, can you fire overwtach at a character even if he is not the closest model, and these other models would usualy stop shooting targeting?

Second, Squig Bombs. When we played it last game, do they bypass the look out sir rule? We read it as yes.

Yes you can fire overwatch at characters. This is explicitly stated in the "Overwatch" rules section on page 227 of the rulebook.

"Any rule that states the unit cannot be targeted unless it is the closest target (e.g. Look Out, Sir) does not apply when firing Overwatch".

Note that things like the Deathshrouds bodyguard ability, which does not mention anything about being the closest target, would seem to protect the character from overwatch.

I think that you can... "Look Out Sir" is explicit that it only protects the character against a "ranged weapon" (core rules page 219). This is defined as a weapon with a type of "Rapid Fire, Assault, Heavy, Pistol or Grenade" (core rules page 366). The Bomb Squid is not a normal weapon and has none of those types, so "Look Out Sir" would not protect the character.

In general, yes. Especially if your opponent declares the character charge first.

BUT, if the blocking unit charges first and gets into engagement range, i'm not sure if you are then allowed to fire overwatch at the character (or any unit for that matter) as they are already in combat. An exclusion might be made if the unit in combat has pistols, but even then i'm not sure you can (and in any case, you probably wouldn't want to overwatch with pistols?)

The rules prevent overwatch from units that are already in melee.

"Can never fire Overwatch while enemy units are in Engagement Range" (Core Book, page 227)

Thanks for clarifying - I thought that was the case.
