However many years ago the Death Masque box came out, I bought it so I could have deathwatch allies and a harlequin kill team. As a result, never used the STARweaver or the bikes, and was looking for something I could make with them. Thought leapt into my head, ork trukk STARweaver. Still not sure I'm actually sold on it, especially since I don't know how I'll build it.

So for starters, I hate the flying base that it's on. They're awkward, they're clumsy, they snap off, plus being a trukk means I'm going to be constantly shuffling a bunch of boys around it and don't want to knock it over.

This leaves a couple possibilities:
1) Put it on something more like a flyer base (with the stem cut way shorter), which would also be a similar size to what the trukk is actually supposed to be.
2) Attach wheels. Probably the easiest.
3) Tracks, maybe off a chimera or some kind of third party model.
3) Attach rockets, and some way that it can be slid using those. My thoughts here were some spare manticore missiles I had, and then either ski/sled type contraption, or hovercraft style balloon base.

I really like the idea of the hovercraft, but it seems the hardest to do. Maybe using PVC pipe (would make the model pretty heavy), or some kind of hose?

Or sleds, which I could just cut some plasticard skis and use some bits to build a body for the STARweaver to sit on. I think I have the top half of a chimera?

I'm trying to do this super low budget, just trying to do something with the STARweaver that isn't going to cost me much extra.

That's a two person jetbike, they'd be an ork helicopter at best. No way one of those thing is fitting 10 boyz unless they're standing on each other's shoulders.

Sorry, like I know some people can pull off amazing conversions, but I'm skeptical.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

Although..... I could also incorporate two skyweavers into the design....

For reference, this is the model in question.

Assuming you mean the Starweaver, I would think a conversion to Deffkilla Wartrike (keeping the triangular shape), Megatrakk Scrapjet or perhaps even Shokkjump Dragsta (clipping the wings in both cases) would be easier to make look good (IMHO of course!). I'd use plasticard tubing rather than PVC if I was attempting a hovercraft - but would you go regular rectangular, or triangle/trapezoid to follow the shape of the Starweaver? Good luck - I suspect due to style differences Eldar/Ork conversions are not easy mode!

Do they make plasticard tubing big enough to make something like that? I've only ever seen really thin stuff, I'd probably want something like an inch in diameter. Alternatively I was thinking some kind of hose, possibly something I could heat to get it to hold a bend.

Hmmm... looks like I have the largest size Evergreen makes, which is only half inch diameter. I'd cut and join at angles rather than attempt to bend it at that size or larger - Orks can get away without smooth corners - or use overlapping curved strips of thin plasticard to cover the joins - a bit like banded mail. If you really want it larger, you could also wrap thin plasticard sheet around discs of the appropriate size - made from lids or circles cut out of more plasticard. Actually - 25mm circular bases would be perfect for your inch diameter. If you go the PVC or hose route, you may need to sand it to have the paint adhere properly, as well as choose your adhesives appropriately - but they may work out the better option - I don't have any specific experience with them.

Every kit is an Ork kit if used in/correctly!
Go for it. Couple tips I've found over the years that really helped my inner Mek:
1) Watch your size. Making a base with the same footprint as a Trukk will help your opponent immensely.
2) Try to match the models "job" with the final aesthetic. A Trukk drives around Boyz to jump out. Adding a trailer for them to ride in may help as well.
Wheels will probably be your easiest option. I have a soft spot for looted Eldar stuff with big ol tires and sixteen unnecessary exhaust stacks. Really accentuates the difference between the smooth Elven curves and brutish Ork konvershun.

A skrapjet or other buggy seems the most natural fit. The most obvious version being a 3-wheeled skrapjet or deffkilla wartrike. A idea that appeals to me would be putting a single tank tread running the length of the hull, in the style of the FW big trakk model.

Doing a trukk size mini is gonna require stretching its silhouette a fair bit. The Raider, by comparison, is pretty much trukk sized to begin with. . You'd want to stretch it out or double it up with another set of bits. Or maybe do something really silly like have the weaver towing a "hover platform" behind it. I'm imagining some sort of junky platform held up with VTOL fans at the corners, or somesuch.

A few pictures of looted eldar vehicles for inspiration (I did find one where a falcon had been pretty much stuck on top of a trukk too, but that seemed a bit redundant). Mostly seems to be a case of finding a convincing way of adding a lot of worn, beaten and angular stuff to get away from the smooth, curved look of the Eldar.

Looking at suggestions probably doing a scrapjet conversion.
