He has lychguards but... are they sentient? They just seem like Trazyn doubles or mindless drones from what I've seen/read.

Like, everything he does, he does it personally. Communicate with a dynasty that wants him dead? He goes there personally and negotiates with them in person while talking his way out of them killing him instead of, you know, sending a messenger.

Retrieve some artifact? He either retrieves it personally or he hires another Dynasty to do it for him.

So... Does Trazyn have subordinates or is he just the sole sentient entity on his dyson sphere and everything else is just mindless drones under his full control (not counting his exhibits, we know they're sentient)?

Yes he has subordinates. 'The Infinite and the Divine' covers Trazyn in some depth (it's quite a fun read actually, I recommend it). In that book he has all sorts of crypteks working under him to help manage his galleries, or advise him on various sorts of technologies he encounters. At one point he also brings a royal warden along as the military commander of an expedition he's leading.

It does state that he often brings lychguards with damaged minds on his 'acquisition' ventures, both because it's easier for him to take over their bodies if he needs a spare, and because they're less likely to be able to report what they've witnessed of his activities. This explains why he tends to go on these ventures himself too. It results in fewer witnesses. But he seems to have plenty of non-impaired subordinates available when he needs them.

His ability to escape death by transmitting his mind into another body does make him a bit gung ho about walking into dangerous situations.

Thanks! I'll definitely give it a read.

I guess only escaped C'tan shards have mindless necron armies.

I wonder how many under him are vying for his throne. I mean, if our president spent 100% of his time making a museum instead of more important matters, there'd definitely be a mutiny.
