Or are each unique? Anyone read anything where a C'tan shard from the same C'tan have very different personalities?

Not all shards take the same physical form, and different shards have different memories and degrees of imagination, so I don't see why they'd be expected to have identical personalities.

They will probably be very similar though: '...each carries the personality and hubris of that far vaster and more puissant being.'
(Codex: Necrons (5th ed.), pg.40).

Do you have a source on this? All the C'tan I've read had the same memory of Necrons killing them, and I've never seen a C'tan utilize its imagination so this is news to me!

'Indeed, a C’tan Shard’s abilities are limited only by two things: its imagination – which is immense – and glimmering memories of the being from which it was severed. Whilst no individual C’tan Shard has full recall of the omnipotent creature it once was, each carries the personality and hubris of that far vaster and more puissant being. Though a C’tan Shard has the power to reduce a tank to molten slag with but a gesture, it might simply not occur to it to do so, as its gestalt primogenitor would have tackled the situation through other means, such as by devolving the crew into primordial ooze, or deceiving them into attacking their own allies.'
Codex: Necrons (8th ed.), pg.68 (also Codex: Necrons (5th ed.), pg.40)

'...the longer these wilful beings spend outside their prisons, the more clearly the fractured memories of their past begin to manifest, and the more rapidly the Necrons’ hold over them begins to degrade.'
Codex: Necrons (8th ed.), pg.68

Thanks! You've been very helpful.

Ok so everyone C'tan shard of the same C'tan is identical then. If each has identical personalities then they're basically perfect clones of each other.

No?

They each have fractured and incomplete memories. The obvious implication is they have different pieces of the whole.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.
