I posted in the army list section about a DA list I'm doing so if you want more specifics, its over there.

My general indecision is centered around whether a Dark Talon is worth the cost. I have been flipping back and forth between 3 lists that are Terminator, BG, inceptors and eradicators. The dark talon is cool and I'm mostly curious about how it will perform. It seems like a beast. To a lesser extent, the same issue with a redemptor dreadnought. When I take one or both out, I just add more inceptors and eradicators. It doesn't get you as many as you'd think but they do a lot of heavy lifting in my list.

So the question is, is the dark talon worth sacking 2 or 3 inceptors and eradicators each and the same question for the dread. Without either I can add a nice chunk of shooting but im not sure if it's worth it. I've never had a dread before (never played with one either) and I dont yet have the Dark Talon but am considering printing a proxy.

Thoughts?

I prefer nephlam due to cost and DA having other ways to deal with armor but both are prob a but over costed

I want to like the nephilim but with so much -1D around, it just falls so short with it's plethora of D2 weapons.

The Dark Talon needs a points drop, and then it's in the discussion. I just can't justify 210pts for a T6 11W platform.

I have never used a flyer myself. I love the idea of them and the DA have some great ones on paper. But yeah (again without ever having played one), I can get a lot more inceptors or eradicators for the cost of a Flyer. Plasma inceptors aren't cheap but they're a great little bomb to drop on somebody. They punch above their weight for sure. Especially with some well times strats.

Thanks man. I appreciate the feedback. I was thinking along the same lines.

PS - is the redemptor worth keeping over some more eradicators or inceptors? They seem pretty loaded for bear. Another model I've never used before but its reasonably priced for the gear its got.

A Protoss colony world

In 8th edition I ran two Dark Talons and had some success with them. In 9th I agree that they are a bit overcosted but honestly that's pretty much the problem with all aircraft that aren't Orks or AdMech. I still think they could have potential in 9th; they do have the fairly unique gimmick of their main gun dealing only mortal wounds as damage, bypassing strong saves on some things, and they aren't as atrociously overcosted as the Stormraven. I would run one in a pure Ravenwing list if only for the cool factor.

Here's hoping non-Ork-or-Admech planes all get a look in the next points update, especially since you can't spam planes anymore.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

I'm just getting back into 40k so I will be sticking with the DA for a while. Ad Mech does look interesting and offers some really cool flyers too. Maybe I will look at printing an ad mech force next (oops, maybe I shouldn't say that out loud... touchy subject for some. GW may be listening too and try to take my house)
