I have a 40k Space Marine army that I plan to paint a light blue/turquoise Chapter colour scheme.

For the Turquoise, the recommend base layer is Grey Seer.

My plan was to first spray paint models white, then paint by hand the base layer. However, it just occurred to me that you can purchase Grey Seer in spray paint form. Will spray painting the grey directly achieve the same result? Assuming I spray paint them properly and consistently? I’m not looking for a perfectly painted army, but also interested if it would make a difference.

I actually prefer using a pure white base rather than grey seer, especially if you plan a lighter base colour like turquoise. But yes, highly recommend getting a spray can for your base, regardles of the approach. I find brush painting base coats to be demoralising.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Primers don't only come in white and black. I believe the cans that citadel sells in colors are such a creature. Though anything with a good sticking power can be considered what we miniature painting fiends call primer. I personally use Molotow inks in an airbrush but I also have cans in my drawer for bigger models.
