"What do you think it looks like?"

This question arose amongst my circle the other day due to my love of fielding Unaligned Units - Spindel Drones, Bore Wurms, Ambulls, The Archivist Zoat.....
Mostly I just like using stuff that's rarely seen/considered. Though I DO make good use of them.

This led others to look into the "Unaligned" category to see what else I might one day bring against them. Or that they might bring. And they noticed that most of the Imperial Fortifications are actually Unaligned - despite clearly being Imperial models with Imperial names.
Defence lines, bunkers, Vengeance weapons batteries, Macro-cannon bastions, Vortex Missile Aquila Strongpoints.... Anybody can take these things if their willing to pay the pts/PL, CP detachment costs & either $$$ or time scratch-building.

So, Fortifications wise, you're scratch building & theming this stuff to fit the look of your non-Imperial force.
A few assumptions:
1) You can use it. You're playing with people who aren't hung up something being Legends, out of CA 2019, non-meta, etc.
2) The rules are as written.
3) You're willing to pay its pts/CP costs, run a Fortifications detachment, etc - just not the crazy $$$ some of these kits go for.
4) You're making it reasonably close to whatever size the existing model is. Afterall, all you've got to go on without spending crazy $$$ is a picture....
5) You can place it on the table. It will fit.

So what do you think some of this Fortifications stuff would look like if made by ______ instead of the Imperium?
Pick a non-Imperial faction + a Fortification & share your vision.

I'll start;
Eldar/Drukari Vortex Missile Aquila Strongpoint.
I don't imagine this being a missile silo at all. I see a portal opening up in the sky & missiles being launched out of the Webways at the battlefield.
But in keeping with #4 I'd probably model it as a # of Eldarish styled focusing arrays pointed at a larger skyward aiming array with an old arty template painted up & mounted on a rod above it all as a warp opening - with some partial Eldar looking missile emerging.
The template warp opening is just for show. The actual thing you'd target would be the arrays (made to the heights of whatever the Imperial version is, taking up the same general footprint).
The energy beam coming from the large array will serve to disguise the brass rod the warp opening template is attached to.

I imagine a Chaos Daemons Void Shield Generator.

It looks like whatever I want it to look like, because it is literally useless.

Prior to selling this terrain themselves, GW used to have articles in White Dwarf for making all these sort of things (back around 1st-5th edition, as I recall) - I think they even put out a book on scratch-building some of this terrain.

Anyway, some tau terrain picks I dug up...

Tau Defense Bunker (and defense "laser")

Tau Landing Pad

And the official Tidewall covers the Tau version of the defense wall.

I've got an eldar Aegis Defense Line are modeled after the guardian shields from Dawn of War 2 and the gun is a guardian weapon platform. I didn't know the dimensions of the official barricades when I made it, so I modeled for slight disadvantage, but I'm still proud of it.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

There are some decent Necron Aegis Defence Lines unofficial models floating about from 7th edition when they were viable.

I imagine a Bastion would look something like a Monolith. Plasma Obliterators would be represented by something like an Obelisk from Epic Armageddon. They would have solid foundations to make it clear they are immobile.

The Necron version of an Imperial Bunker would be made out of a number of medium-sized cubes, they move out of the way to provide firing points for the unit inside, a fortification of living metal.

Well this isn't a thread concerned with effectiveness & "whatever I want it to look like" doesn't tell us jack.....

Pics or descriptions please.

Preparing the Invasion of Terra

My Aegis line for my Iron Warriors/R&H follows the basic Chaosification by removing/covering up the Aquilas and adding spikes but more so in a way that the spikes would form part of the defences as pikes rather than just for show. I also added a crucified Space Marine and extra armour plates to drive home the Iron Warrior connection outside of the paint scheme.
Sadly I don't have any pictures to hand :(

I saw a super cool shield barrier Aegis Defense Line for Craftworlders someone made back in 6e out of spare flying bases cut in half and mounted onto fiberboard, with a projector chunk in the middle. I don't have pictures, unfortunately.

I did a DE Bastion and I used it a lot in 7th, and very little in 8th, not in 9th. But I was going to make 3-5 of them to have a DE city. This was my test model.

It is 95% Correct size, it is the right height, base and top are correct width, but the middle part is a little thinner as you can see, this was a concept piece.

I love the idea of Forts and wish they had better core rules to them (placing on table rules), and wish they were a bit stronger. I would use them more often if so just out of coolness.

A unit that every army can use with cool conversions that are super easy is the ADL, but another many don't know about or do are the Vengeance Weapon Batters, CWE can do large platforms, DE can do sharp looking like above, Orks lol orks can do it all, Nids can do Spore like things, etc....
