Hi all,

I posted a question about how titans work in 9th edition, but that seems to have sunk into the abyss - clearly not enough pictures, so here goes!

I got the modelling bug (heh...) a while back and a Tyranid Bio Titan narrowly edged it over an Ork Mega-Gargant. I never liked the Heirophant - too spindly and not big enough - so I decided I wanted something that could challenge a Warlord in scale.

Here's my first concept sketch - don't worry, this isn't what I'm going with!:

It's not very inspired, looking back at it - I basically just scaled up the Forgeworld Carnifex badly with the old Screamer-Killer legs. Still, when I copied it up at 3x size and cut it out in cardboard, it gives you a sense of the size this thing will end up (Straken may be a beast, but i think even he would struggle...):

I tried using layered corrugated card and papier mache to build up the base structure (intending to skim it with Milliput to finish), but got the mix far too wet. Still not totally dry after about 3 days, and the cardboard went a bit floppy:

Not to be deterred, I took a trip to B&Q and bought some sturdier material:

Hey, wood worked for the original 40k-scale Dominatrix...

After looking through the excellent Modern_Synthesist website, though, I had started to realise my design needed improvement. Taking inspiration from Jes Goodwin's original Carnifex sketch and Mr_Pink's Dominatrix and Tyrannofex in particular, I modified the design a little:

I'm much happier with this shape and feel it fits better with the current range without just looking like an up-sized Carnifex.

My thinking is that this carried a twin battery of huge guns on the top (could represent a projectile launcher like a Quake Cannon, or a smaller version of the capital ships' bioplasma spines as a Plasma Annihilator/Volcano Cannon), the crushing claws (power claw), and a pyro-acid spray from the throat sac (inferno cannon). It could easily just be run as a counts-as Warlord, even if that would be a bit boring

I liked that the Dominatrix brought some kind of psychic offence/direction to the table, but felt that a rider would make things too crowded on the top. I'm playing around with the idea of extending the head carapace into a kind of 'psychic crown' and stealing some awesome glowy/levitating effects I found on another showcase - well worth checking that whole gallery out!

Anyway, I'm going to start cutting out templates again to transfer onto the MDF, then use my shiny new dremel wood carving bits to build out most of the way in the CLS timber before skinning with modelling putty.

I would sincerely appreciate any feedback on the design, as the earlier I can alter things, the better!

Now this one's going to be a doozy!
Assuming this turns out as planned (complete with those stellar psychic electric effects from that one imgur link), I think it'll be one heck of a showpiece. The wood should last quite some time too, assuming you treat it right. As for the design, it kinda reminds me of a Squiggoth, at least in the head, so it's already got the look of a living siege engine down pat!

Can't wait to see what comes of this, but please please please make sure it stays safe! I've seen too many good passion projects die because of one bad shelf or roof leak. I hope bobbuilder is doing better these days...

Keeping an eye on this littl- well, "little" beauty!

"At the point in time when bullets can pass through the interdimensional walls. When firepower takes up the entirety and eternity of space and time, all beings stuck in a neverending life and death cycle as bullets recover and destroy their bodies in quick succession. No one is able to think about anything but the sheer force of the bullets rapidly flying literally everywhere in the materium turning the warp itself into nothing but a sea of semi-automatic weaponry.. Then there will be enough dakka. Or, at least almost." -The Glorious God Emperor of Mankind

Thank you for the comments, folks!

I'll be chipping away at this a bit at a time as I'm also working, studying and a dad, but I did get a chance to scale up some of the sections tonight.

I'll put up more pictures once I actually have some wood cut.

Alrighty then, progress!

Scaled up in paper:

Transferred onto MDF:

Next step, laminate the claws together, bulk out the rest with wood and start carving!

Loving the jigsaw puzzle look at the moment - looking forward to seeing how it takes shape as a model.
