Iv been toying with laying some low point (patrol level) 40K games as a beer and pretzels pallet cleanser and hobby project. Old man/noob/probably dumb question. Is there an official all in one app that has all the rules, cards, unit stats, scenarios and army builder and game management in it, much like Infinity, Malifaux and WM/H have? Iv been looking around and everything seems spread out, disjointed and I can't find a single consolidated version of the truth, paid or otherwise.

I know Battlescribe exists but I understand that has now been abandoned for 40K?

Thanks in advance.

The official place is the 40k app.

There is an official 40k app, however...

A, You need a Warhammer+ subscription to get all the features to work, as far as I'm aware
2, It isn't the most polished experience in the world
iii, It doesn't give you access to all the books automatically. I think the W+ sub gives access to 8th edition codexes (and supplements?) but for anything in 9th you get a code in the back of the book you need to put in the app to unlock the digital side of things.

So, yes, there is an app - but it has drawbacks.

Yes this was my understanding which is why i was confused. Im used to just downloading or buying a games app and having everything there. Having to subscribe and also buy the physical books is....... stupid and off-putting. Why can't I just buy the digital version?

Because GW are stupid and off-putting.

Anyway, Battlescribe is still updated by the community. It actually came as a shock to a lot of people that the owner had vanished about a year and a half ago considering updates to the data (ruels, points, etc) were still going up - it's just the program itself that's in purgatory. In other words you can still use Battlescribe normally for the foreseeable.

Had no idea Battlescribe was circling the drain like that!

The GW app is annoying. It's not worth the subscription fee. Should be more of a process whereby you contractually agree to pay for a year and either pay up front or create a direct debit, then you get access to all the books and army builder etc.

If not, then at least one codex and the main rules and have a tiered subscription service whereby you pay more for more access to books. Basic for single codex, army builder, main rules and TV. Superior level an additional codex. Advanced for 4 codexes and then do a deluxe subscription which gives you unlimited access on the app. Limit devices that can use it. Expansions get given for free to subscribers who have a relevant codex but they have to wait 6 months or pay to get access immediately.

Wahapedia isn't an app, but it does contain the rules in a single place. With helpful cross-linking and pop-up-on-hover references. If having a laptop or tablet nearby while playing isn't a deal-breaker, sounds like it'd meet your needs.

Another +1 for Wahapedia. When I play I'll use Battlescribe to save my list as an HTML file which I open on my phone browser at the table. Any rules questions I switch to my other tab with Wahapedia on it.

The most useful part is the "Stratagems by Phase" section imo.

There is no good Official way to get the stats in one place. The 40k app is garbage and they even took the bad version to AoS which did have a good app.

GW is actively opposed to ease of use an accessibility.

Thanks for all your advice guys and girls. If i can still use Battlescribe and the various sites for the rules its not as ideal as having it in one place but its better than the official app it seems.

Cheers!
