I am having my first game VS Death Guard this thuseday. Any tips in general?

From what I have seen they are slow and though. They pack a mean punch in small containers. Any tips are welcome.

Since they have lots of units that reduce damage by one avoid D2 weapons, like heavy bolters or power fists. Choose D1 or D3+ ones.

Update: Do death guard have a limit on how many pox walkers it can take? One per unit of plague marines or something? Or am I remembering wrong?

Yes, to take 1 unit of Poxwalkers or Cultists requires a Death Guard player to take 1 unit of Plague Marines, 1 unit of Blightlord Terminators or 1 unit of Deathshroud Terminators.

As a DG player, d1 weapons can be annoying since they work around Disgustingly Resilient. Poxwalkers are deceptively amazing. They're cheap, have obsec, autopass morale, a great tarpit unit, can replenish their unit a couple of ways, and with the Mutant Strain strategem they can dish out a hefty amount of mortal wounds. Take as many Poxwalkers out at range as possible. If you don't wipe most of the unit you before you charge you can be stuck in combat with a blob for a few rounds, and lose some pricey models in the process. Most people run heavy of Terminators so ranged ap-2/ap-3 weapons will help put them down. Be wary though, as a DG player I want you in close combat since you'll be -1 toughness, thus easier to wound. Plagueburst Crawlers are an annoyance too since they can fire without line of sight and the mortar can be pumped to D3.

Thanks. My opponent wanted to play VS thunder wolf cavalry. He really loves the models. I am happy to oblige, but they cost so much, are a bit clunky and need some sett up. So that did not leave an amazing amount of points for range weapons. We will see. The fact that pox walkers are fearless is quite annoying. VS my orknppponent a love Tapp usually means some models flee due to leadership.

Thunder Wolf cav are a prime target for a 20 man blob of Poxwalkers. You'll most likely get the charge and wipe a decent amount before they can swing. Then on your opponent's turn he can spend a CP to possibly get up to 7 back, then during the fight phase spend a CP to Mutant Strain for mortal wounds. Any models they kill will get them a model back which can be set up in engagement range. 20 Poxwalkers are 100pts so it's a great trade for DG. If he's playing the Harbingers plague company they can get further buffs.

I played him today and won.

He was a new player, so I was there to learn him the rules. He deployed his 2 tanks very far ahead and deep striked all his temrinators. I got first turn and could take out the tanks and one of the blight drones. My TWC and chaplain got a fist turn charge.

Those pow walkers are hard to kill, and they have so much mortal wounds.

His special death terminators are very good offensive. And they are hard to kill. But I could take out one of the 3 groups and then it was not so much left.

If he knew what he was doing they would reallt give me a runn for my money. All in all it was quite fun.

Good to hear. Some friendly suggestions for your friend:

I would suggest to your friend next time to keep his Plagueburst Crawlers(I assume these were the tanks he ran) as far put of range as possible. Predators and Vindicators aren't worth running.

A Foul Blightspawn with the Revolting Stench Vats relic to run around with a unit of Terminators(any flavor)can make his Terminators twice as scary in close combat. Especially, if you give him the Arch Contaminator warlord trait.

Blight Drones with Flesh mowers are great and are a prime candidate for the Flash Outbreak strategem.

Yeah, I told him the same thing about the tanks. S8 mortars with good damage. Only tyranids can match that. And DG needs it.

I do not understand what Flash Outbreak does? Do not all of them have the same contagion levels?

Just about all units come with the -1 toughness contagion ability. When you choose a Plague Company to play as, each come with a company specific strategem, warlord trait, and relic you gain access to. The warlord traits are all additional contagion abilities. So if you use Flash Outbreak, you can share that extra contagion ability from the unit that has the warlord trait to another unit for the turn(doesn't remove it from the model with the warlord trait) AND for the remainder of the turn for the purposes of determining contagion range for ALL of your units, its considered to be 1 turn later. This can help in the shooting phase as well as melee depending on positioning.

My friends despise my Mortarion's Anvil Lord of Contagion with the Gloaming Bloat warlord trait since it stops them from using 'Set to Defend', Overwatch, and shuts down any abilities/auras their units have to reroll to hits and to wound(As long as they're in contagion range)
