So Primaris are by far the worse Marine option.

What do people think of the following balancing ideas.

Heavy Intercessor Kill Team
Minimalist
APL increased to 3

Maximalist
Team Size increased to 5

Which is better? I think APL 3 is probably the easiest tweak, though there are those that think a squad size of 5 is needed to differentiate from the far better Custodies

Primaris Kill Teams
Minimalist
Allow any Primaris to be taken from the different teams

Maximalist
Team size increased to 6.

Mixing and matching rewards cunning players and opens up equipment options. Increasing to 6 strong would put them in the top tier definitively.

Personally I favour team size 5 and mix and match with Heavy Intercessors staying at APL 2. So...

A Primaris kill team consists of

1 Sergeant chosen from
ASSAULT INTERCESSOR SERGEANT - ARCHETYPE: SEEK & DESTROY / SECURITY
INCURSOR SERGEANT - ARCHETYPE: SEEK & DESTROY / INFILTRATION / RECON
INTERCESSOR SERGEANT - ARCHETYPE: SEEK & DESTROY / SECURITY
REIVER SERGEANT - ARCHETYPE: SEEK & DESTROY / INFILTRATION / RECON

And 4 warriors chose from any mix of the below
ASSAULT INTERCESSOR WARRIOR
HEAVY INTERCESSOR WARRIOR
INCURSOR WARRIOR
INTERCESSOR WARRIOR
REIVER WARRIOR

Heavy Intercessor teams increase to 5 strong and have the option of taking a Sarge and Gunner.

Heavy Weapons 4EP
Replace a HEAVY INTERCESSOR WARRIOR with a HEAVY INTERCESSOR HEAVY GUNNER

My vote would be a split between the two types.

Intercessor Kill Team
Choose between Intercessors, Assault Intercessors, Heavy Intercessors (maybe max 1?) Same thing you said about the Heavy Gunner upgrade.

Phobos Kill Team
Choose between Reivers, Incursors, and Infiltrators.

That's how I've been house ruling them and it's worked pretty well to give more flexibility.

What is the implication of mixing the two types? Other than thematically with regards to the armour. It seems every boost that results from good team selection should be deserved?

I think tying the archetypes to the sergeant also gives more theme and emphasises the heroes leading things the marines have.
