Outside of the characters, how many phobos units are there?

2 troops, 1 heavy support (the snipers), river squad in elite.

Hounds of morkai in SW.

Are there more?

As far as the Phobos key word is concerned, that’s all of them, although from a background standpoint I think you could consider the invictor war suit and possibly the impulsor transport as Phobos if you are going for a Phobos themed army.

I was looking for a reason to take a phobos character. I have a hard time finding one.

Infiltrators en mass with the benefits from aura.

Take a phobos captain to babysitt dreadnoughts. Take a phobos leutenant and make him give a 10 man units of infiltrators +1 to hit with warlord trait.

But is it worth it? I doubt it. No muching about with transports though. But the phobos characters in particular seems quite bad. You end up watsing a very good attack stattline for only a lackluster gun.

I’m not sure I understand, the Phobos characters can buff units that aren’t Phobos. There is no requirement to take anything with the Phobos keyword in order to use Phobos characters, the characters just have different armaments and abilities from the other characters ( different psychic powers, different weapon options etc. )

You could probably make a small TAC list of phobos units, but there are not a lot of them.

Depending on the HQ, some of them have deployment options which are normally lacking in primaris characters. The captain also has an scrambler to keep people 12” away. Librarian has a special bag of phobos tricks.

In general I’m not impressed with their gear. Might be worth looking into relics to give them a little more punch. A few chapters can replace a combat knife with something with more bite.

My wolves have had good success with incursers and the phobos runepriest buffing them.

Reivers suck hard though can't make them worth taking.

Really like the invictus with incinerator, it's proven more durable than you think just looking at it on paper.

I use more phobos than any other type of primaris.

The libby has alot of phobos only buff powers so works well in a list chock full of other similar units.

The captain has a decent gun so can do work whilst sitting in the back field buffing.

My favourite is the Phobos Reiver Lt, he super cheap and can use a couple of decent strats. One to shock grenade enemies so they get negatives to hit and no overwatch and the main one which removes obsec from opposing units. I find this combos well with the WL trait that gives out obsec and also the relic that extends auras. With that he gives out obsec within 9", rerolls 1s to wound within 9", reduces enemy LD within 6" and can remove enemy obsec within 6" - A very useful tactical piece.

The other thing to remember with phobos characters is that they get access to the phobos WL traits which (similar to the libby powers) can be pretty good in a heavy phobos force.

I'm currently building a phobos wolfspear army, but wolfspear has good support for phobos characters with the relics they have, can make the phobos captain pretty scary in melee.

A lot of good info here.

I realize phobo librarian cna take SW powers. That is good.

Arw there any good weapon relics for space wolves (not wolf spear)? The phobos characters come with so many limits.

I also like how incurosros come with a melee weapon for AP, witch SW can benefit from.

SW in general have a mix of melee and long range. But the troops are sort of in limbo as to what role they are. If they start within bolter range and counter charge range it might be very good. 21 points is not so bad either.

You can always Mastercraft the combat/paried knives on the phobos characters, but otherwise there isn't much they can take weaponwise.

Though they are not Phobos, I think, the currently only available in the Phobos themed combat patrol box set Suppressors thematically fit.

Take a phobos librarian give him instincts awaken power, incursors now have ap -2 and 6's explode, used in the third turn 6's also make the ap increase to -3.

Makes them far more effective than most primaris units in melee.

And you can get them into combat much quicker than assault intercessors.

Though the inability to give the sergeant a heavy weapon like a thunder hammer does count against them.
