Greetings, Hobbyists and Crafters!
The League of Extraordinary Riveters is looking to swell its ranks with hobby crafters of all sorts, whether you're an old hand with weathered cobblestones and backlit screens, or just picking up a hobby knife for the first time to add some life to your bases. We hope to lower the bar to entry by reducing or eliminating the contest/judging aspect, making the timing more predictable, and opening the field to literally anything that isn't purely a wargaming model (as the Painting Challenge amply covers that). We hope you'll join us!
I'll run this poll through the holiday weekend, then kick off Round 36 of the 'new look' LoER event by the end of the year. Based on feedback over the last few weeks, I'm going to start with a two-month cycle (January-February), giving roughly a month to build and a month to paint. We'll fiddle with whatever public scoring mechanic we feel we need before the first cycle closes, and we'll make adjustment as needed. The main thing is that we want lots of hobby crafters jumping in, so please help us make it easy for you!
With the knowledge that just about anything (except models) goes-- including playable terrain pieces, decorative scatter terrain, unique or thematic bases, display plinths, dioramas, table tiles or components, game aids, restoration or conversion projects-- which of the following grabs you as an accommodating and fun inaugural theme?
TIME: Your build should relate to time in some way; analog clocks, digital displays, time travel, seasonal elements, bones, ruins, rot and decay, even a scoreboard or time-keeping tool... anything that shows the passage of time.
CROSSINGS: Your build should relate to crossings or transitions in some way; bridges and spans, portals and gateways, docks and landing pads, things that must be crossed like water, lava, etc... anything that connects two points.
THE MESSAGE: Your build should relate to communications, writing, or language in some way; data terminals, banners, antennae, signal fires, warning signs, ancient glyphs, billboards, trail markers, graffiti, even heads on pikes at the gatehouse... anything that conveys a message.
IN TRIBUTE: Your build should involve recognition, homage, or commemoration in some way; this could be a memorial, a victory stele, hall of statuary, throne room, or sacrificial altar; alternatively, make your own tribute to an artist, author, genre, book/film/game, or a personal connection.
