The tyranid prime used to hva a breakingpoint. Take under x warriors and it is better to take more warriors.

Take over x warriors and itbmade sence to take a prime. I do,not remember the breaking point. But my 18 warrior list in 8th edition was over it.

However, warriors have 2 other sorces of +1 to hit. New monster army of renow. And bioweapon bond.

What is the primes breaking point now? Does it even make sence to ask?

Primes have 2 purpouses really.

Buff your warriors: This is for when your rocking more than 2 units of warriors and you have them all kitted out with guns. Its cheaper to take a prime than to pay 1 CP per squad.

As a cheap HQ: He is the cheapest HQ, so if your a madman running a brigade, you probably want one of these guys. Or if your needing to squeeze points for a specific build, he could be your man.

If you dont have to have that nuerothrope for powers and want to save a few points, get the prime. If your rocking 3-5 units of warriors and want maximum dakka, run a prime. Otherwise, he's pretty useless.

I thought he had a good Synaptic Link?

Warriors are good enough, and a Prime is cheap, so certainly a decent choice.

his link is not bad, but since you can only use 3 links per turn in a 2k game and cant stack more than 1 on the same unit it wont be used often.

+1 to hit from regular warriors, reroll damage and extra AP on 6's from the maleceptor, light cover and dence at 12" away from BL, and reroll 1s and 2s to wound from the tervigon are better.

I think the zonathrope link can also be good. (one more dice, discard the lowest on a psykick test.) Use it on something with the psykick relic and you can get big smites. Combine with a neuronthrope for even better psykick.

(It is a shame the forge world malanthrope does not have a link.)

Back on topic: The old prime pushed your hits from 4 to 3. But now your warriors can start on 3 from the new army of renown. Going from 3 to 2 is less impressive is it not? 4 to 3 is a 33% increase in hits. But 3 to 2 is just a 25% in hits. Does that not mean that his breaking point is even more warriors then before?

Regarding his link. Austin wounding on 6's to hit in melee is not that impressive IMHO. Perhaps with genestealers or with hormagaunts.

If we're talking army of reknown list he won't make it as he's a non-monster. If I'm taking hive guard, warriors and possibly zoanthropes/neurothrope then I can't necessarily afford to use a non-monster slot for him. Then again I'm only running 3 man warrior squads so the boost is not that impactful.

That depend on the number of warriors you need. Anybody who has the numbers?
