Greetings folks,

So, like I suspect a lot of us, I'm very disappointed with the current Custodes reveals for the new codex. Without whining too much: I don't like the direction they seem to be going with added rules and complexity. To me, the design philosophy of the Custodes is best when it is basically just amazing elite statlines/weapons and no frills. You may call it boring, but I liked that there was seemingly ONE army in 40k you could both learn and play without having to fiddle about with a ton of minutia.

So, without further ado, here are MY very simple changes to the 8th edition codex to bring it more in line with 9th edition.

My Custodes Codex Changes:

[General]

No Katas
Army Wide Obsec
From the Golden Light remains the same
No additional special rules
Army wide 4++ (including the Sisters of Silence, vehicles and dreads)
5+++ against Mortal wounds (army wide)
All Custodes units receive +1 wound from previous codex statline (this does NOT affect Sisters of Silence units)
Limited and simple strats (haven't come up with, but in line with the design philosophy: simple, effective, and few in number.)

[Weapon Profiles]

Spear:
S+2 AP -2 D2
24'' Rapid 2, S5, Ap -1, D2

Sword:
S+1 AP-3 D2
18'' Pistol 4, S4, Ap -1, D1

Shield:
+1 armor saves (including invuln for an armor save of 1+, 3++), +1 toughness

Axe:
S+3 AP -3, D3
24'' Rapid 2, S5, AP -2, D2

Jetbike Lance:
S+4, AP -4, D3

Bolt Calivers: [Also: plastic Sagittarum! Move these bad-boys over from FW!]
24'' Assault 5, S5, AP -2, D2
12'' Assault 1, S8, AP -4, D3

Pyrithite Spear: [somewhat redesign from fluff, using a wide-angle melta beam instead of traditional melta. Basically just a super flamer!]
S+2 AP -2 D2
18'' Pistol d6, S6, AP -3, D1 [This weapon automatically hits]

Adrasite Spear:
S+2 AP -2 D2
24'' Assault 1, S8, AP -4, D4

Issue with shields-there's no rules for mixed Toughness units in 40k right now.

Really? I didn't know that! I thought that Deathwatch had rules for that?

It's a bespoke rule, not a universal one.

Also, I'd like to point something out-if you have a 230 point Tank Command with Battle Cannon, two Heavy Bolters, and a Lascannon, who orders themself to RR1s to-hit and is Catachan or Custom Doctrine for rerolling number of shots to get 9 shots on the Battle Cannon, they do...

9 Battle Cannon shots
7 hits
14/3 wounds
14/9 failed saves
28/9 or 3.11 damage

6 Heavy Bolter shots
42/9 or 14/3 hits
14/9 wounds
14/54 or 7/27 failed saves
14/27 or .52 damage

1 Lascannon shot
7/9 hits
14/27 wounds
14/81 failed saves
49/81 or .60 damage

For one dead Custodian Guard.
One.

That's pretty damn OP.
