Subject: Transferring paint from pot to dropper bottle: which medium?

I'm about to transfer my GW paints into dropper bottles and adding glass agitator balls.
I'm a little confused about which (if any) medium I should add to the pot first:
- thinner?
- flow aid?
- combination of both?
Also, if the paint is still "fresh", do I need to add a medium at all if it can run into the dropper bottle without any problems?

I just tend to tip them in. Maybe for the very dregs, put a dry small bit of thinner in and shake it up to get a few more drops. Anything more and you’re messing with the consistency too much In My view. Just have to accept losses, but you probably lose much less overall compared to your pot drying out cos the seal is rubbish

I use airbrush medium to thin to airbrushable consistency or close to it before transferring. Often the pot will limit how much medium I can add before transferring. For GW this works because the typical dropper bottle has more volume than GW pots.

Hmmm I did this and added thinner as I went along and the problem is it changed the characteristics of each paint and not in a consistent way. Each GW paint needs a different amount of water or other additives to get it where you want it to be and it’s hard to do this to a whole pot of paint in transition, it’s not killed the paint but something to think about is what are you doing to the paint and how will it behave once you have added to the whole pot.
However most GW paints will require thinner to move it from one pot to another.
I did this by adding a mixing ball to the GW pot and then thinner in stages (shaking each time) until it was thin enough that it would easily flow out of the pot and into a little funnel and then the dropper. I then put the mixing ball in the dropper pot.
I think I used green stuff world airbrush thinner but can’t remember for sure

None of the above, unless absolutely necessary.
You can always doctor paint at point of use, but if you alter the pot/bottle, there's no going back to the original state. Use a mini spatula / silicone paint shaper to empty out pots of the dregs, or pour what you can, then add a bit of water, shake and then pour out the rest.

You can also use plastic pipettes to transfer the last bits of paint.

I only put my paints in dropper bottles for airbrushing but if you are doing it for brush work, if you thin at all, put something like water or flow improver. Flow improver is just a paint retarder and you're probably gonna add some water to your paints anyways. Overall not a big impact to add a few drops to your pots as you transfer.
