Hey guys, i encountered an unsolvable mystery.
The one and only Imotekh the storm lord has his ability "Lord of the Storm" that says:

Lord of the Storm: Once per battle, in your Shooting phase, this model can call the storm. If it does, select one enemy model within 48" of and visible to it (you can only select a CHARACTER model with a Wounds characteristic of 9 or less if it is the closest enemy model to Imotekh). Roll one D6 for each other enemy unit within 6" of that model: on a 4+, that unit suffers D3 mortal wounds. Then roll one D6: on a 4+, that model suffers 3 mortal wounds.

My question is regarding the wound allocation, the ability clearly states that i am choosing the model that is an origin of the storm but my opponent says that i must allocate wounds on an already damaged model in that unit.
I am targeting a certain model, so in the next leadership phase my opponent would loose some models due to unit coherence fail.
i cannot seem to find this clarification anywhere, am i the only one that runs Imotekh and xploits this powerful ability.
I need answers asap.
thank you for your time.

You select a model, but it’s that model’s UNIT that takes the mortal wounds.

Yes, now read how MW allocation happens to a unit with an already damaged model

i did read that one, but i am still not convinced, i will use it as a rule whatsoever, as you say.
Is there any other ability or a weapon that targets certain model in the unit, is this an exceptional rune for Imotekh, i am still wondering.
I would like to hear other rules interpretations, i am puzzled because the ability clearly states: target model receives mw.

The storm overrides the normal wound allocation. The model you selected gets 3 MWs on 4+. Its possible to end up with two wounded models in a unit. There is another rule which "targets" a model from a unit. Its a psychic power from the master of possession.

Sacrifice

Sacrifice has a warp charge value of 4. If manifested, choose any model within 2" of the psyker; that model suffers 1 mortal wound. Then, choose a friendly <LEGION> DAEMON model within 18" of the psyker. That model regains D3 lost wounds. If that <LEGION> DAEMON model is a DAEMON ENGINE and the model you chose to inflict the mortal wound on was a friendly <LEGION> WARPSMITH, the model regains 3 lost wounds instead.
