Hello,

I am trying to make a list for the LVO vanguard event. We are supposed to follow the new 3.0 Vanguard battalion rules.

Vanguard rules state that it must have 1 sub-commander and 1 troop, with the option for 3 troops total. Is it true that behemoths, artillery, and monsters do not fall under the category of troop?

There is a rule that lets you run Stonehorn and Thundertusk Beastriders as Battleline if you have a Beastclaw general. If they are run as Battleline, do they lose the Behemoth and/or Monster keyword?

Basically, I want to run a Hunter general with a Beastrider Battleline if I can make it work under Vanguard battalion rules, but I can’t find much information on it. I’m assuming I cannot due to the Monster keyword. But, Monster is defined as a Behemoth that isn’t a leader. So I’m just confused.

Thank you.

Assuming you are playing with ghb2021 rules if you have battleline you lose the behemoth battlefield role and so would count as troop.

Note behemoth isn't keyword but battlefield role. And behemoth!=monster. There are behemoths that aren't monsters and monsters who aren't behemoths. And just because you lose battlefield role doesn't affect your keywords.

So what you want is actually legal. Hunter general= wounds so fits sub commander. He's beastclaw raider=beastclaw raiders lose behemoth battlefield role=fits into troop.

Biggest issue beastclaw raiders is actually getting low drops with multiple big heroes(frostlords/huskards) as battle regiment fits just 1 of those. Another issue is enchantments as warlord/command entourage needs 2 sub commanders for which you only have butcher&slaughtermaster and hunter as option.

Also vanguard etc can't take frostlords.

Interesting tournament btw if it specifies vanguard as battalion. You sure you have to use that specific battalion?

Thank you! Yes it all seems a bit odd, I’m still not sure how it’ll play out and the organizers haven’t been very responsive. It’s teams of 3 players. Each player has a 1250 list that must be run as a vanguard battalion. From what replies I have gotten, that wasn’t refuted. I did find some players on Reddit who were signed up and equally confused about things so I’m just going to roll with the punches and try and have fun.

Thing is you aren't normally even required to use battallions as they are optional...Are you allowed to play without one? Whatabout armies that can't fit into one? Weirest tournament rule set I have heard and very weird they aren't responsive. If you make unusual tournament pack you should be ready to answer questions stat seeing you are going to get lots of questions...

Still anyway you are good to go with hunter general+beastrider as troops. Assuming tournament follows official rules regarding them at least
