Afternoon guys and Gals!

I'm an old school fantasy player looking to dip their toe into aos.

I'd like to keep with some older models, so I'm trying to decide between the two Lustria armies for those who remember that!

So between Skaven and Lizard.. I mean Seraphon! I'm not fussed about power rating so much, but more people's experience playing with or against either armies!

Skaven are getting new book in month or two so that's something to keep in mind. Power wise seraphon are easier to play with. They are also lot more flexible to build army than skaven. Seraphon can be used to build from hordes to elites. Skaven are much more limited in terms of elite.

Seraphon cheaper to start with in my experience.

Skaven are more resultant in dice rolls. You have powerful units...and then it either whiffs or self destructs. Seraphon are more reliable.

But lots could change with the new book which is around the corner. No word of when seraphon gets one.

If you do start skaven and need clanrats&stormvermin&screaming bells/plague furnaces soon there's nice discount kit to get those so good time to start skaven...

My son plays Seraphon and we have really enjoyable games. THey are magic heavy -- lots of spells, lots of dispelling. The versatility of lists is huge -- one game he will bring lots of big dinos, another he is teleporting lots of skinks.

The new Skaven book, however, will offer quite a few options to pick up things affordably online that are in the new box set. There will also likely be a larger box set of Skaven at a discount price shortly after the dual box drops. You may want to wish to join facebook groups for both skaven and Seraphon for even more specific questions about playstyle, ,cost, etc.

Note you don't have to play seraphon magic heavy if that isn't your cup of tea. It's good but they can build some mean non-magic lists as well. Seraphon is very versatile army which is major plus for them. Magic/shooting/melee/mix. All can be done in various mixes.

They also have access to one of best defensible buffs(-1 damage) army wide(albeit worse than other -1dam as it doesn't afffect mortals)

Wait for the new book to drop and see what style of game you want to play. There are 3-4 play styles for Lizzie's right now (Thunder, Magic, way too many skinks, and a mixture of the above). Right now with Skaven it's hordes but you're limited to only reinforcing 3 times.

Skaven can absolutely do more than just hordes. The most competitively successful lists for them right now are Skryre Stormfiend deathstars taking advantage of warlock buffs/magic zipping around the board with soulscream Bridge and gnawholes. Its actually a really nasty build but hard to play well

Yeah, top skaven lists are like 20 models right now lol. But with a new book that might change a bit.

A lot of popular skaven list right now are things like, Thanquol, 6-12 Stormfiends, 2x5 Skryre Acolytes, Arch-Warlocks and sometimes clan rats lol. I honestly love Thanquol so its nice people are using him, but its mostly bc you can pick all 4 weapons to stack, he is a dedicated anti-X unit.
