Hey everyone, I'm back after having a nice long sabbatical.

I've picked up a large supply of GK models and I'm currently in the works to get them all kitted out, assembled, smoothed and painted "in time".
However I did come across several extra bits here and there, ones that would add some flavor to my more singular units.

I was looking here to see if anyone had a few ideas on how to customize and more or less, personalize a brother captain & grand master.
Voldus and Draigo are both going to be on my sidebar for the time being, along with a few extra units, but their already standard builds and I hate kit-bashing models like Draigo's in general.

If someone has links on how to add extra flavor to a brother captain or any other GK models, that would be greatly appreciated.

I hope to make this an update thread as well, checking in to show everyone just what I have finished.

One has to wonder. Do the Tyranids consider drop-assault troops... fast food?

Well it's a few smooth months now and I've had a few chances to pull out my old models and play some games of 9th ed. I do like the brotherhood rules and some of the versatility that comes with it.

On the note of new models, I've gotten two new dreadnoughts. One is going to be a doomglaive, because I haven't had one since the original release of the GK army. From what I can tell it's going to be a pretty nice cqc box, with an above average amount of shooting. Too bad it can't be a venerable though. While the other is going to be a boxer, just like it's older sibling.

I've picked up 8 strike squad boxes, a bit overkill, but I was able to find them on in a lot purchase and it saved me a decent amount. 3 boxes of terminators, and a few sprews from other spare sets as well as a large bag of extras that I was able to find on ebay. Just a tone of pieces..cartridges, helmets, pads, powerpacks and the such. On a good note, it also had a number of combi-bolter pieces. So now I can easily outfit the two new librarians that I wanted in the army.

I've still yet to run across anything that could be used to make a decent chaplain however. Aside from a relic terminator armor piece, that I was going to shave down and use with a spare death mask. I could not find anything that suits my taste for either of his weapons, or his attachments.

The brother-captain and grand master are two that I'm working on still. After buy a new box of green stuff, I wanted to practice making capes, edges, adjusting gear lines and the such.

I don't necessarily have an army list juts yet. Mainly because I'm looking to replace my gunship as well as add another LR, or at least three razorbacks for reliable transport. That and I can magnify their hulls, so I can just swap them from being razorbacks, to directly being just a standard rhino.

Well I screwed up on my first Grand-master. I was trying so new methods on shaping parts for his armor and weaponry. Basically I went too far and the model just looked far more of a mess, than anything else.
I'm still looking for a way to make heavy weapons look more like they're shoulder mounted, and the terminator armor just have a mounted target finder that sits on the arm. It's basically a range finger piece from some devastator bits.

I tried making a more effective cloak with green stuff. It actually came out very well, but applying it to the back of the GMs armor turned into a bit of a nightmare. I ended up tearing the cloak in several places and having to run quick fixes to keep it together.

On the other hand I have two new squads of interceptors. One with halberds and the other with falchions. They both came out great and I took the opportunity to make a Champion. I will be getting my hands on the new Crowe model, but it's just not in the cards at the moment. I've tried to order two and both times they've been out of stock.

I have a 2nd Terminator Librarian now, but this one is a Storm bolter, Hammer variant. My other has a force staff and combi-bolter/flamer.

Another Dread Knight fully magnetized and ready to go, as well as two new dreadnoughts. One stock and one being a Venerable.
Not really happy with the choices for dreadnoughts this time around, but they've always been a very solid unit choice for nearly any army that they've been present in.

Now is the time that I'm starting to think about allies and maybe one more transport.

As an update, I've decided to start building my own chaplain. I haven't been able to find one for a reasonable price, especially on the normal channels. So I'm going to grab a few choice pieces from some random terminator boxes, and with some of the experience I picked up making capes recently. I think I can actually do him a some good service. Nothing for a helmet as of yet, although I do have some old death mask for my blood angels. With a little cutting, grinding, and some other tough love. I believe I can make him look quite unique in the long run.

Here I am hoping for a new cast of Draigo to show up in the near future. I was moving a few models around and ended up breaking him, and I'm still not sure how. Either I sat something on, or beside the case and it ended up snapping his sword arm off.

Finally, Crowe is mine.
The man came across my desk about two days ago and I didn't even know that he was in that damn box.

I have over twenty purifiers now, so he's going to have his own little cadre to work with, especially in the larger games that I've got planned with my gaming group.

I've been unable to work on any of my newer models, so the Grand-master and the GM-Dread Knight.
I did manage to start on my strike squads though, so I still have the plan to just keep thirty of them on hand, just in case. Not really sure on what kind of heavy weapons I'm going to outfit them with. Mostly thinking that it's going to be just flamers, and keep the heavy weapons for my two purgation squads.

Note to self, green-stuff is far more temperamental than I last remember.

I think that less can be more when converting GK characters- they can very quickly take on that 'dipped in glue and rolled around the bits box' look.

I did mine out of the older plastic praetor in terminator armour;

For the life of me, I've never been able to get the servo skull, that comes in the kit. To actually fit right on the models that I make from it, save for possible the apothecary.

As for modeling, I was trying to get the greenstuff to cure correctly and during the last few edging portions. It became way too tacky for me to work with and I ended up ruining the piece that I was working on. So I had to peel off what I could and ditch an arm piece. At least it wasn't the legs or chest, and when I'm ready to go again. I have a new idea for what I want to do with the cape's attachment to the shoulders.

I was thinking of making a small portion look more like fur. I've done it before, with some of my older space wolves, but it's been about eight years since that time.

Mostly I'm just out of practice.

Did you use a diffusion bulb, or some other method to break up the light when taking this picture?

On another note:
I have not known true horror, until I had to sit down and paint the storm bolters for nearly 30+ models. Then look and realize that I forgot the bolters for both the Razorbacks, and the Dreadnought.

I need to get something else to take pictures with. Had this phone for a few years now, and maybe it's going to be one of the newer I-phones, or a really up to date Android.

That and I'll need to get a small area set up to take pictures in. Not like just snapping a picture of the model as it sits on my workstation, is going to make it look any better.

I recently bought one of those selfie lights with a 10" circular light that sits on a tripod and houses your phone in the centre. That gives really good light from the front. Saves me having to clear a huge area on the desk for the light box.

I already have a decked out GM-NDK, but I need a secondary that would be a nice standard.
It's probably just going to be a Brother-Captain wielding a Stormbolter & Halberd.

The last few matches that I've played with my army has come out with some good results, and the Relic Stormbolter is probably one of the better ranged weapons that I've gotten to use on a terminator model.

So the current update is as such-

25x purifiers: Halberds/Falchions 5 to be fitted with incinerators.
25x strike squads: Swords/Falchions & Psycannons for each squad (if necessary)
20x Terminators: Swords all around. I just like the math on the swords, str5 with -3ap seems to be the best fit. I've managed to nearly drop the Silent King in one full charge from 6 models. Tide & stratagems being used.

10x Paladins: 5 Hammers / 5 Halberds. Hammers have psycannons, Halberds have psilencers. Expensive yes, but these guys have either been a great distraction, or had a massive impact on the opposing army whenever I field them.
3x Dreadnoughts: Hellfire pattern, if no one recalls that. It's both missile & lascannon combinations. I do still have the CC weapons for them as well, which usually has the Storm Bolter. Except for the time that I want to run one with the Melta, because he'll get the flamer.
(Also) I'm working on a nifty conversion to make one into a DoomGlaive Dreadnought. It's legends, but my shop has no issue with players running those and I've always wanted one.

2x Venerable Dreadnoughts: Multiple weapon load outs for both of them. So I can practically run them as whatever I want at this point. Had really good hot drops from my flyer with one of these. No doubt, if I run any of these guys. It's either Preservers or Sword bearers for my brotherhood.

3x Razorbacks: Laserback setup. Even though I've had no need for the heavy bolter, I still have two of them that can be switched out. Kind of wish that I still had the old Las/Plas setup.

2x Nemesis Dreadknights: GM setup for both shooting and sword. With the standard Dreadknight being setup for shooting, and boxing.

Characters--
Crowe: Because he's probable one of the cheapest/broken characters I've seen in a while. I've had him do some pretty nasty work against most targets.
Grand Master Voldus
Brotherhood Ancient:
Paladin Ancient:
Terminator Apothecary:
Librarian: Magnetized

Finally started on my Brother Captain & Kit bashing a new Draigo, because his model is honestly horrendous.
I still need to either re-paint, or get a new Stormraven, and I want a 3rd Dreadknight.
I also have 15x interceptors still waiting to be built... just don't feel like doing it.

I need to get back to taking pictures. Been out of sink for that kind of thing, but I've picked up doing it again. With this new discord group that my shop opened.
Had some really great games, with the only issues being from Necrons. That, and my play style still has yet to evolve from just smashing plastic, like in the old days. The two Death Guard players in my shop have no real experience, save for one being a bit more inventive with his play style. And the head player is your typical Green Tide, Ork player.

Would anyone happen to know a good method for converting something into a GK Chaplain?

I've scratch built a new Drago, now I just need a secondary librarian and the chaplain.
