I vaguely recall seeing threads for the original game when the first KS ran, so I figured some people might have interest for this new campaign. Its a dual campaign for both a Batman RPG, but also a new "Season" of the boardgame that seems to feature almost a 2nd edition of the rules, by way of the "Bat-Computer".

Anyone have experience with the game at this point? The models look great, and the value seems there in that regard, but I am also over any game that doesn't have good game-play as its foundation.

Figures are good (well good boardgame good i dont want to over promise),

Game is pretty good as well, but, the original rule book wasn't much good for learning it, bits of relevant info were scattered all over the place and written in a fairly opaque way anyway,

i kind of managed to get it going as i'd played Conan which has a bunch of the same bones but when the folk i'd played conan with moved away i've not really managed to get a group to sit down an learn it

The chap who's put together the new rulebook seems to have seen the same issues i (and many others did) with the original from what he's written so hopefully this new version will be a much easier learn/teach and if it's a reasonable price i'll pick it up (and maybe expand my collection? especially if they bundle a bunch of the single minis from the 2nd ks which always felt too pricy for me, although it was great if you only wanted one or two specific heroes/villains)

According to the comments, they expect a Pledge-Manager to have an "All-In" tier at a jaw-dropping $900 or so... from you experience, would all of it combined have a volume of game-play that could justify that?

It doesn't help that the game seems to have so many "modes" that I don't even know what a standard 1v1 game even is???

That sounds an awful lot to me unless you're totally Batman crazy

hopefully you'll be able to pick an choose to some extent

If they only offer an 'eveything in season 1' bundle it's probably a decent deal as it is mostly good (although i skipped the batmobile, and am on the fence about whether having the versus mode expansion is really worth it although in terms of plastic per $ it's fine). https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/806316071/batmantm-gotham-city-chronicles/description

I'd be uncomfortable with an 'eveything in season 2 bundle' as i just don't think it's worth it, the boxed stuff again is fine but there's a massive number of basically expensive 'picking zone minis' Personally I only picked up a few favorites (eg Etrigan, KGBeast, Mr Freeze) https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/806316071/batman-gotham-city-chronicles-season-2/description

(especially as the all in presumably includes the RPG which i know i wouldn't use, and is hardcopy only as they don't have permission to do pdf versions)

but i guess it also depends on whether you have to 'get it all'

Edit: this is a download for the New rulebook, have a read over it and see if you think it's for you

(i've had a quick scan and it does seem a lot clearer but i haven't got the mental energy to really read it properly at the moment with a bunch of other stuff i've got going on)

The RPG pledge seems like decent value, and the miniatures are very nice.

Wish they had some sort of RPG plus minis pledge.

breaking out minis from the boardgame is why season 2 is so expensive as it's no longer large collections of stuff that people get all or nothing of but minis that may never sell and take more effort to store and ship. Even just offering all of them without the boargame would probably be close to the same price as just getting the boardgame itself.

I have the Conan boardgame that Batman is based on. I have plenty of dice-based game systems, so don't think much of yet another one. Conan's stamina mechanic is uncommon for dice-based games, but the dice were more important in play, in the few games I played. Monolith has a reputation of problematic rules, but they're at least revising them in this edition. (With Monolith a French company, imo, you need not only English translation, but American playtesting of the English translation, which is not trivial.)

If you're a diehard Batman New 52 fan, this boardgame is about it. Knight Models has Batman figures, but they're metal / resin and expensive. HeroClix has prepainted Batman figures cheap on eBay and I've seen some repaints, but they're pretty much tabletop quality and the HeroClix game is another dice-based game that I don't care either way about. I do see other Batman licensed games on KS, so this won't be your only chance for a Batman game.

With today's world events, the Season 1 base game *is* a good price for the New 52 Batfans, as it's close to the original KS price, and it contains the revised material. How is the Harley Quinn and Harvey Bullock sculpts? I didn't like the renders during the campaign.

Conan's rules over the past 4 years or so have really broken out of Monolith's curse of poorly written English rules/scenarios but that's due to basically the head rule writer for the line is an English Teacher from Canada, who works for Monolith Part time, and a lot of Conan is now written in English First and then translated to French (though Fred still does some stuff for the game).
