Hi all,

I am struggling to build a Crusade list that is viable at low levels but is also something I can build on:

Option 1 - Lychguard:
Patrol Detachment - Novokh:
CCB, Nanoscarab Casket (0 RP with Trazyn), Enduring Will (1 RP), Staff of Light (no points for Scythe)

1 x Technomancer, VOD (0 RP with Trazyn)
5 x Immortals
8 x Lychguard, shields.

Pros: I can level up the Lychguard, aim for Undying Revenants, and Grizzled to be tanky.
Cons: Lych dont hit that hard, and are slow apart from VOD. Minimal threats, slow, limited options.
Strategy: VOD or walk the Lychguard onto enemy objective with CCB, technomancer with the Lych to get those reanimation and heals on them. Hope my backfield holds.
Agendas: Territory Imperative

Option 2 - Warrior Blob:
Patrol Detachment - Mephrit:
CCB, Voltaic Staff (0 RP with Trazyn), Enduring Will (1 RP), Res Orb
Royal Warden VoD(0 RP with Trazyn)

19 x Warriors - Reapers

Pros: Although a one trick pony, at least it has one trick.
Cons: Leveling up warriors in crusade feels wrong, but this army suits my play style more.
Strategy: VOD Warriors into position and unload into chosen enemy. When charged back, fall back and repeat. Res orb to maintain strength.

Option 3 Nightbringer:

1 x Technomancer Voltaic Staff (0 RP with Trazyn)
6 x Immortals
1 x Nightbringer

Pros: Lol Nightbringer at 500pts is purely just for one of my friends who loves to power game.
Cons: Nightbringer doesnt level up, so a bit of a waste.
Strategy: Place NB on table, watch opponent wet themselves, NB proceeds to do NB things.

Option 1 or 2 seem better
Technomancer in Option 3 has barely any targets

Is there a reason not to play unit sizes 5, 10 or 20? I think the unit cost are either full block or half block

could you do CCB, Technomancer, Warriors?

either way have fun

How about:

Patrol Detachment - Novokh:
CCB, Nanoscarab Casket (0 RP with Trazyn), Enduring Will (1 RP), Scythe
1 x Technomancer, VOD (0 RP with Trazyn)

6 x Immortals
5 x Lychguard, shields.
1 x Lokhurst H.Destroyer

Or stick with the bigger squad of Lychguard?

Are you doing points over PL for the Crusade, because if you're doing PL, you just go from 5-10, no reason to be in between since it costs the same. That being said, for 500pts, I'd recommend something like this, assuming you have the models: (Also assuming 500pts, would tweak a bit for 25PL)

Technomancer with Control node x1 (80pts)
2 Cryptothralls (40pts)
10 Flayed Ones (100pts)
5 Immortals (80pts)
3 Canoptek Wraits (105pts)
2 Lokust Destroyers 1Hvy/1Regular (95pts)

The extra added melee works well with Novok, I think the Lychguard are a good idea, but work better later in the Crusade. With a more spread out list like this, you're getting more experience on more units that you can then grow later. The melee units work well on the small 500pt boards where you can close really fast and the number of units give you the tactical flexibility to control objectives and do actions where needed without shooting yourself in the foot for your damage output.

Alternativly, to get closer to the models you listed, you could drop the Flayed Ones and Wraiths for 8 Lychguard and run 2 Hvy Destroyers instead of 1/1. It makes the list a bit less flexible, but also tankier and a better against bigger targets.

Whups, yeah, you're right. It might actually be 85. With the cost reduction on the Lokhust destroyers, they only take 5pts to upgrade their weapon, so that would make the heavy only 45 if it's part of the mixed squad. (I think)

it's 85, I got it wrong too. It's weird

anyway,
best troops: Tesla Immortals
best elites: Skorpekhs and Flayed Ones or C'Tan. Deathmarks ok
best FA: might be Praetorians actually, wraiths good ofc.
best HS: h. Lokhusts
