Hey guys, i played this game about 2 weeks ago, but only just got round to uploading these photos to here.

Spoiler:

friendly forces

opposing forces

the battlefield

deployed over, 1st turn!

turn 2, the Skfz 251s advance

panzer grenadiers advancing on the church:

one very lonely gunner left

Fallschirmjager counterattack

the last gunner earns a medal....

the battle report:

SITUATION:

FREINDLY FORCES :

my platoon was built around 2 vet squads with 10 men (with LMG and SMG for the sgt), and 5 man vet squad(LMG/SMG), with a 10 man fallshcirmjager squad attached (lmg + 3 SMGs), led by oberleutnant with assistant (both with SMGs).

supporting this was a AT rifle MMG, medium mortar with spotter, a pak 38 (proxied in this case by a pak 40 lent by the oppo, as i physically dont have a AT gun to use). all my forces were veteran.

ENEMY FORCES:
My opponent used a panzergrendier force, built around two Skfz. 251, with regular infantry squads inside, and two veteran squads on foot and a 3 man command gruppe, supported by a MMG, Med mortar with spotter, and a wespe pushed forward for direct fire support. the squads were heavy on SMGs and STGs, and configured to close with and rapidly assault the enemy. some of his supporting units were regular, as were the two mounted squads.

TERRIAN

A mix of light forest and farmland, with a church slightly off center to the "south" side (with south being my deployment zone), and several north-south walls that became most important later in the fighting. board was a 6X4 foot one.

CONCEPT OF OPERATIONS

DISPOSITION OF FORCES:

We deployed on the "short" edges with 24" deployment zones to keep things moving. I focused by forces around the church just in front of my deployment zone, with the AT rifle on the exterior flank, and the Oblt, the 5 man and one of the 10 man squads in the dead ground behind it. on the other flank i placed my AT gun, the MMG and a the remaining 10 vets, with the jagers in the center in open ground to push forward (something of mistake on my part, i realised later). my spotter was sited in the church bell tower.
the enemy deployed one 251 on each flank with the wespe near the centre, and his Oblt, MMG, mortar and one of his vet infanty in trees facing the church and the final squad slightly "west" of the center line in cover.

COMMANDERS INTENT

as this was my first game, it was just a straight slogfest, kill or be killed. I fully expected to lose this game due to learning the rules as i went. my plan was to occupy the farm, and use the AT assets on each side of the table to knock out the 251s and hopefully the wespe, then rely on my superior training to win the ensuring firefight, with my men in cover and his trying to cross open(ish) ground.

EXECUTION

my jagers in the open drew fire almost immediately, and i put them "down" to keep them alive, which (mostly) worked. my med mortar got a lucky 1st round off, hit the enemy MMG and heavily pinning it and killing their spotter who was in cover next to it, forcing them to use the mortars own line of sight. his return mortar shot killed by MMG before it fired a shot!

My 5 man infantry squad occupied the church, but both my AT weapons failed to hit anyone. their APCS were able to advance safely and get into good positions to debuss. the next round, his mounted troops did just that, and were able to heavily suppress the AT gun and kill two of its three crew. my jagers pushed into the centre, trying to get a better position, and lost several men to return fire for daring to be in the open, mainly from the newly deployed squad of the "eastern" 251. the 5 man squad in the church punished that squad heavily, but was then demolished to a single man by a well placed mortar round, and the survivor promptly broke and ran. the 10 man squad behind the church moved into replace them (i needed the firepower).

the eastern regular squad tried to finish off the jagers, moving closer to clear the wall that had been sheltering them...but failed, and came too close! The fallshcirmjager passed a heavily suppressed "run" order and charged, killing the panzergrenadier squad, and proving that jumping out of planes really does make you hard as nails, before consolidating back to cover. Up to this point, i;d have said things were going the enemys way, but I;d consider this to be the turning point of the battle, as it really swung the "flow" in my favour. my AT gun, crewed by a single mad gunner and rather inspired by the jagers, finally managed to hit and promptly kill one of the 251s. The squad it was carrying tried to close and kill the lone gunner, failed, and was shot of the table at short range by infantry in cover, and my AT rifle immobilised the other 251.

meanwhile, the footslogging grenadiers on the church side pushed forward to try and charge the AT rifle, but shot poorly and were left in the open, where the squad in the church made them pay. The Wespe, shooting over open sights, devastated my squad in the church, who joined thier fellows in flight, and the grenadiers attempted to charge but misjudged it and ended up at point blank. my Oblt, who'd spent the battle doing fairly little in cover behind the church, popped around the corner and killed them with MP40 fire.

the final round was mainly focused on the enemy trying to kill my 2 remaining fallshcirmjager, and while they caused a lot of pinning, they failed.

end result: I won, 4 orders dice to 3!

I killed 3 of his squads and a APC (and immoblised that), he killed my MMG and 2 squads. all in all, a qualified victory in my favour.

CONCLUSION

very fun, and very different experince to the 40k i have played before. the battle flows very differently, but i was able to adapt somewhat. my oppo got some real good licks in with his fire support, that wespe was his MVP by a mile and his mortar did good work as well. my own mortar did solid work, and the AT weapons on the flanks managed reasonably well (they forced him to keep his wespe at range out of sight, which missed him at least 2 shots). the fallshcirmjager earned thier rep with the counterattack, and overall im happy with my preformance. the chruch was a bit of a double edged sword, it gave me good cover form direct fire, but he was able to score most of his kills form HE shots into it.

overall, cant wait to play agian!

To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be relearned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.
