So I am going to purchase the CSM codex shortly and fancy dropping a bit more cash in the process.

Not asking for rules but can I take Be'lakor as my lord for a CSM army or is he / it locked to daemons only?

Just wanted to know before I drop the coin on his model.

Thanks in advance.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

There's an 'army of reknown' which uses a mix of daemons and marines.

Summary here:

Thanks for that.

More specifically I just want to know if he is a legal option straight out of the new CSM codex. I have little interest in buying more books just to shoe horn one character in

Is the Disciples list still legal?

They did a 'content validity update' back in April. That's what's considered legal.

Disciples has a green check, so, yeah.

But I don't know what changes with the release of Codex CSM. And daemons in a bit (whenever that is, but they did announce it).

The straight/simple answer is Belakor is currently not a plug and play model if you just have a CSM codex and a CSM army.

When the new Daemons codex comes out he might become an easy ally to add to CSM.

Currently, 3 little chaos knights (War Dogs) or 1 big chaos knight are an easy-ish ally to add to CSM. So that might scratch that centerpiece itch.

Legal, yes.

Potentially due to be updated with new rules for his AoR with the Daemons codex in short order.

I've been curious about this also since I've been playing around with the Legion of the First Prince in AoS and decided my best course of action was patience.

Be'lakor is in a weird spot, he's closer to GD stats than he is to DP status. I think it's safe to assume he'll get some kind of update or refresh with the Daemons codex, if the leaks and rumors are accurate and he ends up on the GD side of the statline, it could change the army and its composition significantly. Especially if they update the 40k version of his AoR.

I definitely wouldn't buy anything in anticipation other than Be'lakor himself.

Be'lakor, as of the most current rules, lacks the keywords to be included in a Chaos Space Marines detachment. He would be a poor choice for a CSM army.

Thanks again for the comments.

In summary I guess the answer is 'not really, but wait for the Daemons codex'.

I would prefer not to ally him, I just want him to be straight up the lord but if the keywords are janky - stupid mechanic inmho - then let's see.

Still going to buy him though...model is ace!

It's a sexy model for sure, fun to paint.

I suspect he'll be a separate faction in the Daemons codex along the lines of CoB in the CSM codex.

Not wanting to be a threadromancer but this just dropped on WHC which goes some way.

Naturally Be'lakor seems to be excluded in the second footnote but it doesn't elaborate on what his gimmick may be.

The Warcom article from Sunday specifically mentions that updated rules for Be'lakor and his Army will be in the upcoming Daemons codex. It's like one line in a long preview article, but it's there.
