When Age of Sigmar's recent Starter Set was released last year, the two included factions Orruk Warclans and Stormcast Eternals got new Wartomes to coincide with the official release of 3rd Edition Age of Sigmar.

I think the 9th Edition starter Set of 40K even go the updated codexes for its included factions Necrons and Space Marines before any of the Boxed Army Set including the Beginner's Kit was even released.

So why did Skaven not get their own Army Book revised for 8th Edition despite being one of the included faction in the Island of Blood Beginner Set and the other included faction High Elves also having their own updated Army Book for that Edition? Not just that but in the Island of Blood Booklet there's even an ad banner in the last page for the 8th Edition High Elves Army Book which was released around the same season as the IoB starter set!

While NADA absolutely NOTHING about advertising for a future 8th Edition Skaven Army Book in the same Pamphlet of the Starter Set!!!!!!!!!!

Sure Fantasy was lagging in sales but considering extremely disliked factions like Tomb Kings got their own Army Books for 8th Edition And Skaven being one of the most popular factions, I am bafflef at the lack of an updated Skaven Army Book for the last edition of Warhammer Fantasy! Esp since both factions in the current Starters Sets of 40K and Age of Sigmar got updated Faction Books around the same time the latest Edition was just released!

Whats the logic being this illogical decision?

I may be wrong, but I think that the skaven were one of the later army books released in 7th edition. Back then the studio didn't seem willing to re-do books for the same army close to each other - you simply didn't get a situation like the Lumineth for AOS where they got a second book within a year or whatever. It was just a case of them deciding to do the end times and cancel WFB before they got round to doing an 8th edition skaven book, although there qas quite a bit of new stuff released for them in the end-times, like the giant Thanquol and Boneripper, and the Skryre stormefiends, which I suspect were originally conceived to accompany an 8th edition army book

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

In many cases you would get an army book every other edition. 8th lasted a long time though and backfoot armies like Wood Elves got covered.

IIRC Brets were going to be next, the Beastmen and finally rats but the End Times plug was pulled instead.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It was a bizarre time. They didn't subscribe to even the most basic marketing concepts.

Something like 7-9 months went by before we got a single Army Book for 8th.

In those days, 40k space marines were the only faction that got an army book every edition guaranteed, otherwise you had to wait your turn. Skaven were one of the last books of 7th edition, so they weren't going to get a new book while other factions were still using 6th edition books.

Honestly I'm kind of glad skaven never got an 8th Ed book. It means we got to keep a giant list of magic items and equipment instead of getting a neutered 8th Ed selection.
