The White Dwarf got a facelift.

The ultimate Warhammer magazine is getting a facelift this month. There’s a redesigned cover, but inside you’ll still find all of your favourites including new rules, painting guides, and card inserts. August’s issue features a new campaign system for Warhammer Age of Sigmar, Crusade rules for Necrons in Warhammer 40,000, and a Tempest of War battle report.

I could not tell you what's different about it.

The cover has the title, issue number and some article titles... They haven't been doing that for years?

The obvious change is that the list of high lights are on the bottom of the cover rather than down the side.

We will see if they changed anything about the contents design or if we get new Article series.

The real question is ... who was able to figure out the "mandatory" price hike on the bottom right?

I’ve been subscribed for around 12 years now. Never had a price hike

Are we starting a bit of DLC Double Dipping?

That wasn't just two years ago, which is a long time for modern GW, but we're also nearing the end of this edition's codex cycle. At a guess there are no armies left that need placeholder rules until their codex release, so GW needs to find something new to put in White Dwarf. Maybe Necrons as an early codex have been left behind enough that they could use a bit of an update? Shouldn't be much of a concern for narrative rules, realistically, but then GW loves to change paradigms halfway through editions so who knows if what was thought of as a staple of Crusade two years ago is even relevant anymore.

It's also just White Dwarf. Now that GW has formalized the DLC train to stop at a GW store near you every half a year, I wonder how that impacts any end of edition campaign books. Are we going to see those or does GW have enough codices to fill the rest of edition without resorting to extra books on top of the biannual ones? Will be interesting to see.

I think the current version of white dwarf is as good as it's ever been. There are usually lore articles for both AoS and 40k and usual a fairly long piece of fiction.
That said I'm never buying it again. They add each issue to the vault after 5 months. Warhammer+ is cheaper than a digital sub used to be and since the magazine isn't tied quite so strongly to new releases any more, I'm happy to wait.

Necron Crusade rules are rather boring compared to more recent releases like Tyranids or Chaos Marines. I'm fine with them getting an update, even if it's in White Dwarf. Better that than a $60 campaign book.

To be fair I think Crusade rules are a perfect fit for something like WD to expand upon. Personally I love the White Dwarf magazines that expand the casual and narrative stuff.

The extra Crusade stuff is why I started buying WD again. Mixing the various Crusade options between WD and the little spiral books keeps things interesting.

You'd think that they could have put these new Necron Crusade rules with the other 4+ part Necron Crusade rules series they recently published in White Dwarf...

Hehehe
