Hi,

I've been looking into using oil washes on 28mm Historical miniatures and have found a ton of stuff on Fantasy/Sci Fi stuff in terms of tutorials/vids. Either my google foo is very off or the tutorials/vids simply do not exist.

I'm aiming to use them for The Crimean War, Ancients, Dark Ages and Late Medieval mini's.

Does anyone know of any such tutorials/vids using Oil Washes on 28mm Historical miniatures?

Thanks.

Why do you need them for a specific type of model or scheme? Can't you take what you've seen and work it onto what you're doing?

Alternatively, is there something specific you want to know about the process?

The techniques for using oil washes on fantasy or sci-fi 28mm models are, surprisingly, pretty much exactly the same for historical subjects of that size. Or most sizes, for that matter.

If it's that you're unsure what colors you might need, again, pretty standard is a black (usually Lamp Black or Ivory Black) and a dark brown (Vandyke Brown or Burnt Umber) will do you for 90% of cases, regardless of if it's fantasy, sci-fi, modern, or historical.

It's pretty much the same, not sure why you'd need a specific tutorial?

Oil washing kind of came from historic modellers, it was popular for many years among historics before it ever became popular among "warhammer" wargamers. I have no idea who used it first, but definitely in terms of popularity the historic modellers embraced it long before the warhammerers.
