DO NOT DELETE Battlescribe from your apple devices!!

Apparently it has been removed from the app store due to being an old and "inactive" app. You will not be able to re-download it.

I just tried looking for it, and it wasn't there.

*edit* It appears to be back

Funny, my friend was making fun of me the other day for not having an iphone and I told him "at least I can download whatever app I want". How quickly that became relevant...

Probably means it's close to the inevitable incompatibility with system updates, too. The future for all abandonware, sadly.

I really hope the owner pulls through whatever they're going through. Battlescribe is a godsend among terribly laid out codices and constant point updates.

The UI is also not terrible.

How the official GW app can't do all that is just fething silly. Really shows what GW thinks we'll just eat up and call brilliant and forward thinking.

It's been 2 years next month since the dev abandoned it and went dark, I don't think they're coming back.

What I don't understand is why walk away from something that could make you a lot of money without much actual work involved. The community was handling the files, all the dev has to do is stability updates once in awhile

The only money made from Battlescribe was from user donations and a single ad space(which I see on my PC version but not my Android version). I highly doubt it was making the dev much.

There was also an option to pay for the ability to do things like custom unit names and point costs, which I used until the dev abandoned the app.

Also there's this thing called real life. Maybe dev's real job pays enough just ain't worth sacrificing free time for updating this

Does anyone know of the off-shoot methods to access Battlescribe data files?
I saw something recently where the data file creators have other ways to access them.

I thought I read in one of the threads here a bit back that some of the file guys were working on a open source engine for the files, so this sort of thing would not be an issue.

This is called 'project phalanx' and is being developed as an opensource application by people from the BSData community. Development is a bit slow though, but if anybody wants more information regarding this tool it's best to join the discord and ask there.

Whelp, this is embarrassing. Apparently an expired credit card caused my iOS developer account to go down for a bit, meaning the app couldn't be reached in the App Store.

It should be back up and running now/soon ❤

In other news, things have been quiet around here for a bit. But don't worry:

I am alive.

BattleScribe is alive.

I just needed to take some personal time.

Expect maintenance releases on all platforms soon to keep things ticking over.

BUT!

It has not all been downtime over here. I have been experimenting with and researching new technologies to ensure BattleScribe is future proofed. This is work that has been sorely needed for a long time.

It is a huge job and there is still a lot to do...

P.S. I suck at social media - apologies for any confusion about the future of BattleScribe recently ❤

It's not piracy.

Battlescribe is the app GW should have made available as the official app.
It is not a replacement to a codex or battletome, but compliments them, updating the rules entries where GW cannot/will not.

Edit: Nevermind, seems to have fixed itself now…

So it appears to be back on the App Store, but I am now getting “404” errors when it goes to update the data files; is this happening on other platforms/to other iOS users?

The data site occasionally gets overloaded and goes down. You can check here to see the status of the site. This is pretty common any time an update happens.

Thanks for the above thread link.

From our friend Auspex Tactics. Between what is highlighted in video and the linked thread, If I was still subscribing I would stop, but it's everyone else's money, not mine so up them to determine if there is still value in subscribing or otherwise supporting Battlescribe.

Phalanx is in progress.
newrecruit.eu is online but I've heard complaints about accuracy.
Forces app will read rosters you made on other devices (and, let's face it, a VM running Windows 7 will never not be able to run battlescribe to manage data and rosters so this is one of the most future-proof, if fiddly, options).
Rosterizer is in closed beta and uses a different data format (JSON)

All of this is relatively moot since BS is back up for now. But it's good info to have out there.
