Right, this is a bit of a long shot but I figured it never hurts to ask - does anyone know what flock GW used for their tables back in the 90s, the era of Goblin Green bases and monotone grasslands? Trying to colour match it from pics but not too successful so far..

Cheers Skeleton, was looking at the Jarvis JTF ones but none of them seem quite right, any ideas on specifics?

I always used Woodland Scenics Blended Turf - Green Blend.

https://woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/item/BT-GB

Now, its not goblin green, its actually darker (the first photo on the WS site looks bright green, but its more like the following, darker green). I painted my bases goblin green, and then white PVA + blended turf and then was done. (at least back in the old days).

There is a pic in my gallery of some Bret Grail Knights (5th ed) done up with GG bases and WS flock. Is that the look you were looking for?

Oh Canada!

Have many an old school Goblin Green base with old 90's matched flocked basing, and can confirm said flocking is slightly darker and a little more olive than Goblin Green is. The two colours were close but not identical matches.

The original GW flock is a bit of a pain in the rump since it's made of sawdust, and goes more yellow-brown if exposed to light for a long time. Some of my oldest units have needed thinned Goblin Green touch-ups to match the rest of the lineup from storage.

Paints back then weren't consistent either. Depending on the production run you got different greens under the same name. That's why there's no perfect modern match, we're all looking for something different.

Sponge flock is easy to make. If you find a colour you like dye a sponge and blend it (not in the Mr's favourite blender...). Or use large sand since that was the standard back then in most cases
