From Craig Mazin, the writer of the astounding Chernobyl series, the first teaser for The Last Of Us has dropped:

Hoping to keep this thread spoiler-free for those who have not played the games.

Personally the two games are two of my favorite games of all time (with part II edging out part I for me), so well written they are better than most films as well - so I am very excited to see the first game (and DLC) adapted into a series. Hope it gets greenlit for a second season to adapt TLOU Part II.

I love the games and I think this trailer looks amazing. I had no idea the guy who did Chernobyl was behind this, which only makes me more excited. Can't wait for 2023!

So at least 2 actors from GoT, and both that I liked. I am not a fan of post apoc movies/games etc. but may give it a go based solely on the cast.

Never got into the games, and I'm sure there is a lot of nuance to the story spanning 2ish games, but is this another post-apoc "the true enemy/monster was humanity all along" type of setting?

Definitely going to check it out just based on who is involved, but I might be tapped out on this genre.

I never played the games so don't know any spoilers per se but I know the basic premise.

Spoiler:
Zombie Apocalypse. This time the Zombies are Fungal Zombies (one of the more "realistic" versions) like the kind of fungus that infects ants and takes over their nervous system.

Girl appears to be immune. Guy is trying to transport her to make a cure. Problems along the way.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

nah, it's a property where the setting isn't the main character; the setting aids the themes, character development, subtext, and story.

Its getting solid reviews from a few sites that I follow and generally trust.

Looking forward to it!

While I never played the game I have watched some pretty compelling machinima from 1 & 2… with 2 being pretty… contentious. It will be interesting to see how they deviate from that.

Reviews are good, but it's hard to trust Druckmann.

I'm looking forward to this, but I'm nervous.

I'm still confused why they didn't do a prequel instead at the height of the outbreak where we get to see more behind how Joel and Tommy had to survive and what led to their falling out. I get they want to tie it into the games a bit more directly, but it seems like a more interesting area to explore.

That has more draw for fans of the game but not for general audiences. A big part of the draw of TLOU over the hundreds of other zombie franchises is how easy it is to get the basic story of old man escorts kid to save the world.

Really loved the first episode. I hope everyone complaining about the casting choices can now shut the hell up. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey were excellent in their roles. The atmosphere of the show is perfect, they nailed the aesthetic so well. The colour palette, vibe, tone - all of it is spot on. They're following the game along pretty closely, but there's lots of cute little embellishments here and there especially during the initial outbreak. I'd highly recommend this to just about anyone.

The burning farmhouse was on the wrong side of the road compared to the game. 0/10. Never watching again!

No, seriously, it's scary how close that was. Even simple things like "What are you doing?" "Killing time!" are lifted straight from the game. The slight derivations, like how Joel and Tess end up with Ellie, make sense. The expanded beginning with Sarah worked very well.

Looking forward to next week.

Was a little surprised the daughter was shot. I was expecting her to turn.

Nope.

They're sticking pretty religiously to the source material (thank God!), with the only changes being minor or things that make more sense (Marlene just kinda shows up after you track down the smuggler in the game, here she's already there because the smuggler was double-crossing her and Joel/Tess), so for those of us who knew, that scene with Sarah played out pretty much exactly - almost down to where the camera was placed - as the game.

On that note, I would of course appreciate if people don’t be posting spoilers from the game of stuff that hasn’t happened yet in the show.

I came into the show with some (but not much) knowledge of the game but have never actually played the game.

This meant there were no major shocks for me this episode, but my housemate who had zero knowledge also wasn't totally surprised/shocked.

However, we both enjoyed it. Great performances all round and high production values.

My only, niggling, feeling is that it actually felt too much like a game.

Spoiler:
The car battery, finding the sewer entrances, meeting up with the Fireflies and getting out of the city all felt like sections of a game. This isn't necessarily a complaint, but the way the show is shot feels very similar the sort of camera angles you'd see in an over shoulder 3rd person game and the story beats all feel like game progression. That is probably a huge compliment to the show runners, but I felt it a bit jarring, if that makes sense?

Overall, though, a very solid start.

I'm disappointed with the Last of Us so far. It's obvious that they are save scumming, Joel hasn't died so far even once.

I suppose we have to wait 'til later in the show for when Joel finds 5 pistol rounds, but has to leave one of them behind because he can only carry 20 and he already has 16.
