As the subject says, not surprised.
I actually have Stadia because I wanted to play
Cyberpunk 2077. It worked out well for what I wanted. I'm not a serious gamer and didn't want to go all in on a console I may not play very often and Stadia filled that niche.
There wasn't a lot of games that caught my eye and it didn't seem like they were making an effort to pull in good titles.
In the end Google was Stadia's downfall.

Owners will get a refund on everything but the subscription service.

Geeze, I must be old, I didn’t even know what Stadia was until this thread made me google it, lol.

Only game I got for Stadia was BG3, and now it looks like I won't be playing it at all unless Larian brings that game to next gen consoles. Oh well, at least I get a refund.

Heh. I noted it in passing just because I keep track of tech stuff, but I couldn't figure out how they didn't know that in the US (which I'm assuming is google's primary market for this, because other countries seem willing to limit their shenanigans) the infrastructure required just plain didn't exist for what they wanted to do.

For rich, suburban tech enclaves in certain areas it was probably fine, but for a nationwide thing it was ~20 years too early. A decade into the fiber optic cable 'revolution' and I'm just giving Comcast the hairy eyeball. The only other provider in the local area simply just drops service every couple months for a couple days at a time.

The only way Stadia was going to be a success is if you looked at it through some rose tinted Google Glass.

I knew it was still alive but I'm surprised it took them this long.

The writing was on the wall a couple years ago when they killed all in-house development.

Honestly Voss' assessment is probably optimistic. I don't think cloud gaming will catch on until there's a big change in infrastructure.. The market for a cloud gaming service that exists solely as that is, IMO, extremely narrow and Stadia was always a niche concept desperately in search of the audience who simultaneously couldn't afford better options but had the internet to make cloud gaming practical.

Who here both can't afford a game console, but has top tier Internet? Anyone? Anyone at all? In the back? No? I didn't think so.

Unles you were dumb enough to not see that Google would shut Stadia down like nearly every other one of its ventures.

Suck to be this guy, but let's be real playing 6000 hours of Red Dead Online is probably the more alarming mistake he made than playing on Google Stadia.

Glad I dodged that bullet. At least with Geforce Now, all the games I buy remain in my Steam library even if I decide to cancel my sub at some point. Stadia's business model was a POS to begin with.

It's pretty good on them to refund everyone who bought it the cost of the hardware and games they bought.

I just don't think the adoption of stadia was very high, and internet speeds and availability in major counties isn't good enough for proper adoption right now.

6000 hours? That's 4 hours a day, every day, since the game was released four years ago. Wow.

Have you seen Legend of Total War's hours in TWW2? I don't remember the exact figure, but he hit 10,000 hours some time before TWW3 released, from memory it added up to more than 8 hours a day.

Stadia was doomed from the beginning. Anyone who got burned kinda deserves what they got. No way was it going to work out, streaming a AAA game without downloading it was a cool trick, but unlike Anakin spinning his way to victory it just couldn't work. So much backend strain on the servers and you the user had to keep yourself tied to a strong internet connection.
