Take a look at the video HERE at about the 9:14 mark and hope and pray that's not the design they're using for MODOK...

If that’s just a helmet and we get to see him without it it’s not Terrible, but if that’s the always appearance it’s not great.

Hmm... seems less Quantumania and more "Journey to the ILM Volume".

Looks really solid. I've been curious but tempered on how Kang would work with the scale of previous Ant Man movies, but it looks like they're radically shaking up the line and giving Kang something to work with.

And here's the official (ant-sized) version of the trailer...

"Oh Kang even looks like he shou- oh it's another magically disappearing helmet. Feth!"

And, ok, so that was MODOK.

Yeah, Scott is toast.

Oh, come on! Make a deal with the tyrant to get back the life you lost cliche? That's always a great idea- you can't possibly lose anything by going back in time and altering events that happened that could lead to everyone being in a much worse place than they are now. Why do we need to see protagonists make the same mistakes over and over again, when they're covered ad nauseum by even a bad public school education?

Also hope you don't strip the agency from your daughter and lover by making this decision for them...

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

It just seems so wildly out of character for Scott to be like "I literally saved half of existence, but my daughter is a bit older than I'm used to, so I'm going to mess everything up!"

Yeah, it does seem like they don't really know what to do with Scott's character ever since his first movie, he's really just along for the ride ever since that point and it seems like they're making up this arc as a way to make way for a potential replacement for Ant-Man.

The MCU post-Endgame is bad enough with how it's meandered mostly aimlessly from movie to movie and TV shows, but by far I think it's greatest sin is how badly they've done their attempts at building new or on existing character arcs.

My hope is that they're deceptively editing things and the actual plot will be less... not good sounding.

MCU trailers have been misleading in the past, hopefully no one has changed that past.

Unfortunately, in most cases, the MCU trailers being misleading in the past has generally been for the worst (i.e. showing Hulk running in a fight for the OG Infinity War trailer when it turns out Hulk is basically a non-entity in the movie).

You know, I think I’m ok with his mask. It’s not a full face cover that disappears and reappears, just a protective translucent field. It fits with the previous need to have a breathing apparatus when shrunk down. I’m curious how that fully gets explained and dismissed since they’re obviously not wearing their helmets all the time. Still think it’s better than just purple face all the time.

MODOK is… an interesting take on his design. No real exposed flesh, just metal. Not sure his facial expression can even change or if it’s 24/7 angry grin. Had seen the PoP! Fig for him previously, and it looks the “same” as the glimpse you see of him here.

Yet it served its purpose - to hide plot elements important to the story.

But why does he have it if he's just going to take it off whenever he has to speak?

Oh no, you see him in other shots. Full on big head/giant face look that you'd expect. The covering is, I guess, his "battle mask".

The trailer never shows him flip it off to start talking, you only see him turning it off once. I want to be optimistic be presume it won’t be egregious like Black Panther and Doctor Fate and such because it still leaves his face visible so he gets his actor recognition time.

And yeah, I see fleshy MODOK now. I missed him in that shot first time thru. That’s better.

Things you could do - reset time. Then have other films and tv shows slowly come apart as the smallest superhero puts in motion the end of the universe. Small things building up over an arc. Things they will do - have a punch up between hero and baddy, things mostly fixed apart from the stuff that is meant to invest us in future films in a linear figure out and foil the baddies plans.

Can someone explain to me why disappearing helmets is such a discussion point every time we see an MCU trailer? Of all the insane comic book lunacy that goes into these movies, what is it about that specifically that gets people so riled up on Dakka?

I think it's a big immersion breaker for a lot of people. One of the big draws to the original Iron Man after all was the suit feeling real. People love making that helmet. For the most part, early MCU did a good job keeping the headgear where it made sense. The nanotech stuff doesn't feel at all real and makes you a lot more aware of the amount of special effects on screen rather.

Personally, I don't hate it, but get why it annoys people. It's neat on specific characters where it makes sense, but its also very overused.

I still suspect it’s some kind of Actor’s Union Thing, requiring that their faces be seen when dialogue is happening, or that their faces be visible for a certain minimum percentage of screen time.
