Hi all.

I bought the Hexfire Box a while back in case I ever wanted to get a Thousand Sons Army.

It has:

1x Infernal Master
10x Tzangoors
5x Terminators.

Would the Xmas Battleforce be a logical/value addition?

I notice there are 3 Exalted Sorcs in the box.

That would push me to 4 HQ units wouldnt it? In a force thats pretty small with the above units, would this be too many?

Thanks for any advice

well, technically its 5 HQ if you count Magnus, though he sits in a separate category as a supreme commander.

the tsons battleforce box, is, in my opinon....okay. you'd need the Rubics to balance out the Tzaangors (Im personally a fan of bird-men, but their not suitable as your ONLY troops), but really, i'd only recommend it if your really keen on Magnus himself, as this gets you him plus a few helpers.

Also, the Sorcerers and exalted Sorcerers share models, and exalted Sorcerers let you bring a regular Sorcerer as a "slotless" addition. for a 1k game (which is what you'd be able to scrape together with those purchases), i'd say your right on the upper edge of with all those HQs, as tsons rely heavily on thier casters, so having a lot is good, but you need mass to operate behind or they'll be picked off.

To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be relearned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.

If you don't own Magnus, you want to own Magnus and plan to collect TSons this is a slam dunk purchase.

Magnus - You want one.
Exalted Sorcerers - Build one on foot and one on disc for now, enjoy all the spare parts. Build the third when required.
Rubrics - Can never have too many.

I used the Exalted parts to build more Aspiring Sorcerers so I could run 5 man Rubrics. But word of warning here, the recent codexes have been very "you can only build what is in the box" so 5 mans may be going away in 10th.

For every exalted sorcerer you can include a normal sorcerer or normal terminator sorcerer slotless in a detachment.

Exalted box has lots of spare bits and work with rubrics. You can take three normal rubrics and turn them into sorcerers with the leftover bits.

I’d be fluffy and run 2x 9 model (Tzeentch’s sacred number) rubrics, and buy a third at some point. So that’d be 3 exalted and 3 normal sorcerer (later potentially slotless).

Now Magnus is a supreme commander and a primarch, in a non- CP size game you can slot him in a supreme commander detachment which is not only free (no cp cost!) but refunds a Combat patrol, brigade or battalion detachment (your choice) cp cost.

Further, since the sorcerers are slotless you can fit that many HQ’s in a brigade detachment. But if you want to run all your HQ’s then you’d need to bump up to a battalion, which has five slots for HQ’s.

Leaving one last slot for either Ahriman or a termie sorcerer. But then you’ll need six troops, 3 elites, 3 fast attack and 3 heavy support.

Now, nothing says your sorcerers can’t be aspiring sorcerers, so you with both boxes you’d have either 3 or 5 troops if you made five man rubric squads.

Since you’d benefit from another rubrics box you’ll set up to run that. You have a shaman and a termie squad, so another termie squad or a hellbrute would work. Though like rubrics I’d make termies one squad of nine and termie sorcerer hq, but that’s me.

Fast Attack and Heavy Support will be the OOMPH because unless you have existing chaos models you’ll have to buy options to fill three of each.

But nothing says you can’t accept having extra models to swap around every game.
