Cool list. One thing I like about Raven Guard is no matter how they play the LOOK cool. That's major scene points right there.

Greetings,

I'm not really a Space Marine guy, certainly not when playing competitively, but I feel bad with the response you're getting here so let's run it over and at least I can probably offer the thoughts I'd have if I was across the table from it;

This is fine. I will admit that the Raven Guard are in my top three chapters, so I'm sad that Shrike is kinda "meh" but I think the Phobos Librarian works really well with them, and Shrike is certainly fluffy and at least not totally bad.

I consider these guys amongst the wimpiest of SM Troops, I'm guessing you're taking them to help protect you from deep strike?
It looks like all the other Troop unit options tend to be cheaper, so if all you need are objective squatters...eh. It's fine I guess, but you could probably save some points.

I tend to find these things to be slow and easy to move around. I guess they're here for anti-horde work and a little bit of anti-vehicle/monster? I dunno, seems like another Vanguard squad could be more helpful and add maneuverability (and be more fluffy ) I just feel like you have other options that could provide you general short range dakka while being otherwise faster or more helpful to you.

You're burning a lot of points putting shields on everyone, I usually am happy to have some cheaper ablative wound options (and a chain sword/claw combo would still leave you in a good place to blend hordes. Other than that I like this and think it pairs well with the army competitively and with the fluff

This is good to see too, your non infantry killing power feels a touch thin, so these guys can be very vital depending on what you're fighting so you'll want to be mindful of them depending what you're fighting.

Overall I would say the big head scratch for me is the Centurions and I question their place in the build. I think you could probably do with either a fast unit, or a unit that can be pretty good vs infantry and non infantry and would be better served than by the slow short range unit, though at this pont level maybe if you just drop them in there it won't be too bad.

Hope some of that ramble helps,
Thor.

Looks good.
Alternatively you could start with the RG battleforce
https://www.games-workshop.com/en-IE/raven-guard-ravenstrike-battle-force-2022
– 1x Kayvaan Shrike
– 1x Librarian in Phobos Armour
– 2x Invictor Tactical Warsuits
– 3x Eliminators
– 10x Reivers
Its more in line with these cunning and patient hunters.

First of all THANK YOU for your feedback!
Sometimes it is really hard to get some help :'D

So let me see if I can break down what i thought (if anything) ^^

The infiltrator Squad is for blocking deepstrike and potentially camp home base, thats right. Which Troops would you prefer as I am planning to get additional boxes for a 2000 points list (expanding this one for another 1000)

The Centurion squad is as you say a bit anti tank and horde clear. if nothing else i wanted them to "camp" objectives. Maybe another vanguard would be the better choice...

The many shields in the squad I have is to safe me from my own dice and rolling 1s.

@Wuestenfux: To be honest i thought about that, but i read that reivers and the warsuits are just not that good and therefore "lost money". Feel free to change my mind ^^

Thanks again!

Warsuits are quite useful as they are hard to take down at the 1000 pt level.
Play the rest of the army around these beauties (I have 3 of them) and you will have nice time playing.

Hmm okay, i thought the Standard Dreadnaught outshines them ^^
Will have another look!

Regarding the other units for up to 2000 points i assume (with the new detachment rules coming in) another vanguard unit and eradicators / Eliminators...

Any good HQ choice (besides them above)?

While reivers might not currently be good, rules can flip at any time turning garbage into gold. Of course they’ve missed their chance a number of times now. In crusade play they also have some perks. PL means they don’t have to pay for all the options, so get the grav and graples for free. Some of the battle honors are nice for them (like giving them obsec, or shooting and doing actions) Without some major changes they are not going to rock the meta, but can be a nice toolkit unit in the right circumstances.

Also against the right targets they can do well. I played a lot of matches with my Ultras vs. my son’s Salamanders. He used a unit of them. Against power armor they hit like a wet noodle. But when I was trying out my tyranids? Even a wounded squad of reivers did ugly things to squads of gaunts. Not that there aren’t plenty of other units that could do the same (and more) but it was nice to see a much maligned unit excel at it’s job for once.

But they also serve as a good source of phobos bodies. The full eliminator kit comes with a LOT of spare parts. Enough that if you can poach 3 bodies from another kit, you can get more snipers. You could also bling some up to serve as HQs, or some weapon/head swaps to be other phobos troops.

I like your list. (grain of salt, I have an Ultramarine perspective on things, YMMV)

Can’t fault you for taking your chapter’s special character, although I don’t know much about him. Librarians are solid, and the phobos one looks cool.

I’ve had good luck with infiltrators. They are a bit pricy, but bring some nice options. I like the med pack over the coms. Makes them a little harder to shift off an objective. Although always being in range of the RR1s aura you get from rites of battle is nice, especially on this unit that likes to fish for 6s.

Your army seems to be in 3 sections, all pretty well balanced. Campers (snipers, infiltrators) Slow push up the center (Cents, Eradicators) Movement (VV, bike) Good mix of AV/anti horde in each section.

If you are looking to expand to 2k, I’d try to keep that mix alive.

From a practical POV, you can look at bundles (like the RG one just released, or the combat patrol that includes a lot of the stuff you want) and make space in your list for the other units.

If you are going in for the coms array, getting a phobos Lt. is not a bad plan. And/or more infiltrators.
A squad of heavy intercessors would add a block of obsec wounds to the gravis armored fist.

Hey Nevelon, thanks for your input!

I had 2 Games yesterday with a solid win 78 to 48 against Sisters and a close loss against Nurgle Demons. After those i can say i love my Eliminators
Shrike on the other hand was not that durabel (Beasts of nurgle just wiped the floor with him and the Veterans... MW are yikes... ^^)

I played around a bit with my list up to 2000.
(all with the new detachment rules in mind)

I would take another unit Eliminators, Vanguard Veterans (both approx 7-8 guys), Infiltrators (and yes with the medpack ^^), another 2 Bikes with MM and... still thinking about that, 3 Warsuits as they also have concealed position, which REALLY did a lot for the Raven Guard secondary (placing explosives first round for 9 Points secondary).

What do you guys think about that?
