I'm trying to figure out what "Dial of Destiny" is supposed to be. That said, I'm cautiously hopeful that this will be good. Nice to see John Rhys-Davies returning.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

A white man playing an Egyptian man, and in a fez no less?

Clearly we have to cancel this film.

Good start to this thread, well done mate.

HBMC being extremely dull aside, I have a small fire of optimism that this won't be dreadful. Just have to wait and see.

Put me in the same camp as everyone else in terms of expectations.

As for the “dial” it looks like it’s found underwater in a Greco-Roman style temple, so I’m guessing that they’re doing a play on the Antikythera mechanism (which is a cool idea; article for those who haven’t heard of it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antikythera_mechanism)

Given Salah’s presence, maybe kicking off in Alexandria, so possibly going for Minoan/Santorini as Atlantis? That may just be wishful thinking on my part, because I loved the old Lucasarts game and Atlantis is such an obvious topic for an Indy film.

That is a great call. Would love it to be Atlantis related and the Antikythera mechanism.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

After the generally lukewarm reception to the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I'm surprised they're pulling Harrison Ford back into this, but I guess the nostalgia machine is all Hollywood has to fall back on nowadays.

Well they certainly can't use Shia.

Not the first time they could have recasted for that role if they really wanted to, or frankly I would expect a reboot entirely given how old Ford is.

It looks like there maybe a pretty large amount of timeline jumping on this one. Interested in how they pull that off.

Unless, the Nazi's came from their moon base or their secret base in Antarctica in the 50's and 60's?

Allegedly the movie involves the Space Race of the 1960's but also some time travel elements as well as Phoebe Waller-Bridge somehow "becoming" (literally) Indiana Jones... Something to do with quantum physics where they share the same body or some other nonsense.....

Yes. There's a bit of a synopsis of the plot on Wikipedia:

In 1969, American archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones lives against the backdrop of the Space Race. Jones is uneasy over the fact that the U.S. Government recruited former enemies to help beat the Soviet Union in the competition to make it to space. His goddaughter, Helena, accompanies him on his journey. Meanwhile, Voller, a NASA member and ex-Nazi involved with the moon-landing program, wishes to make the world into a better place as he sees fit.

The title is a bit silly, but no sillier than "Temple of Doom", "The Empire Strikes Back", or any one of the many pulp serial adventures that inspired Lucas and Spielberg in the first place.

I remain open to the possibility that this is a good Indiana Jones again. All the good ones had Nazis and so does this one.

That was one of the (many) things that disappointed me with KotCS; the whole Soviet psychic warfare shenanigans was a great idea for non-Nazi villains, but they didn’t really do anything with it.

In fact, KotCS would have upset me a whole lot less, if it didn’t have so many great ideas that were poorly executed or wasted; a dumb, forgettable film I could have ignored much more easily, rather than something I want to like, but can’t because it’s so bad.

Wait, there were Psychic Russians in that film?

Man... how was that the most forgettable thing in that movie?

Leaks out of Disney say about four or five different endings were filmed. The one KK is pushing HARD has girl Indy go back in time and somehow replaces Harrison Ford Indy. The movie then ends with flashbacks of the previous four movies with girl Indy doing it even better.

The director has made public statements saying this was never even considered, but others claim to have seen the footage.

Take all of it with the appropriate amount of salt.

It was a big part of the initial story of Lady Thor as well and why I dislike her original arc. It wasn’t just that she was Thor now, but that she was a Better Thor, and still had it so hard because she was a woman hero and you Never see those. Outside those first eight issues of her own comic she was much better.

There were also, like, three crystal skulls. The movie didn't really make sense.
