Four of us are diving into Team Yankee and we are pretty excited.

Any tips for starting an American force? I have the Colours of War book, so I feel fine on the painting side.

Force composition -- especially the different approaches, that I'm all ears. Thanks.

You do have to think about points, what models you like etc.
for example, Abrams are super expensive points wise, but good value for money. They’re just better as a support unit rather than an Abrams company.
You will want AA and artillery too.

You could try an armored cav force. Bradley’s with a unit of Abrams, supported by some artillery (M109s(, AA and a pair of Apaches.

Have you got the Team Yankee starter set? An absolute bargain, especially if you buy 2 and split it with the Soviet player.

The US starter set is also ideal for this build

Thanks so much -- got the starter and trading the Russians to a friend who is giving me infantry and more tanks. I'll experiment with this -- cheers.

What’s your “must have” units for Americans? You definitely should have units that you like in your army, even if they are not the most competitive game wise.

Good question Bullyboy. I picked up the VAD / RTV box. They look rad and seem necessary, at least once we get more variety of units on the table.

I'm really liking the pick up trucks and Militia (wolverines).

As for others, I love the Huey helicopters as well. I should of probably just gotten the American Starter force, but it will be nice to trade as that starter is a good value.
We are playing with a Red Dawn focus, so the limited edition transport copter is very tempting...

Red Dawn is a good place to start for sure. I’m hoping to convince my buddy to play a game of Soviet VDV vs US marines on Iceland (from Red Storm Rising novel).

Oh that would be rad. We're throwing down 2 v 2 the first weekend in January. I'll post pics for sure, it's coming up now.

So I decided after getting the Starter half of Americans the M163 VADS box that my next step will be the $100 starter box. I'm not going to get more Abrams from a friend in trade. I will pick up his new in blister infantry, however. That will be my first foray into ground troops.
Is there specific infantry you all recommend for U.S. ?
