Hey,

I am not overly familiar with Custodes but the Christmas box is tempting in a 'points per dollar' way since it gets you 3/4 of the way to 2K points.

Box Set:
– 1x Captain-General Trajann Valoris
– 3x Vertus Praetors, one of which can be built as a Shield-Captain on Dawneagle Jetbike
---- If I understand correctly - if you make one a Shield Captain then the unit is only 2 and would not be valid (unit size 3-6) Why would this be advisable since you would need to buy a another set of 3??
– 3x Allarus Custodians, one of which can be built as a Vexilus Praetor in Allarus Terminator Armour and another as a Shield-Captain in Allarus Terminator Armour
---- Similar to above question - it will make a unit of 2
– 15x Custodian Guards, which include components to build some as Shield-Captains and Vexilus Praetors.

What else would be required to fill this out into a viable, and flexible, army?

Thx

3 more jetbikes. 3 MM dreadnoughts, 2 of the caladius tanks, 3 of the smaller FW magnetised dreadnoughts. 6 saggitarius although it is probably easier to get 10, and one of the big dreadnought with magnetised weapon load outs. And then 5 SoS with bolters to finish the army.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

Karol has a bit of a skewed view of 40k.

Do you want viable, as-in, placing at tournaments? Or viable, as-in, fun to play at the shop on the weekends?

Fun to play on the weekends mainly. I suppose that I am defining flexible as, for example - Flexible enough to play Orks this saturday and Tau next saturday. (just examples really)

Probably shoulda posted this in my first response, but there's a Custodes Tactics Thread on this forum. You can get some advice there!

Stop trying to fix the xmas boxes. The as is Custodes box appears to at least have everything to make a pretty casually competitive list. Loads of troops, the best character in our lineup, and bikes. Throw in Terminators, and you've got a fairly wide array to throw at a casual opponent.

Now if we're talking competitive, this is utter dross. But we all know these boxes have NEVER been aimed at the competitive crowd. For Emperors sake, they still try and push the Flamer tank on Blood Angels.

Then you don't really need anything K said. The thing is, most of FW stuff is really OP so tournament types will tell you to buy as many as possible (and it was even worse, whole custodes armies without a single plastic model in last edition because FW can't into balance) but if you play casually, the whole plastic range is competitive.

As for why you would make a bike Captain - because they are really good. Captain with relic is really fast, durable, and deadly, to the point people used to spam as many as possible before that was blocked (also, helps with making the army cheaper because it's much more points per $ spent).
