Hello Dakka dakka lord of the rings friends

I recently started watching some battle reps and saw how awesome this game is!
Looking at my small collection I have left from my childhood to my surprise It all can be an army of its own

I’m asking for advice on how to bring what I have up to a small force(I guess 500 points is entry level)
Nothing super competitive but I’d like to give my opponent a fair fight eg not a meme list.
What I already have is: Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, king of the dead, 9 warriors of the dead, 2 spear 2 big axe 4 sword and shield 1 axe and shield
I really want to include the three hero’s though I hear gimli isnt the best but he’s my favourite character

I’m thinking to add a banner and some riders of the dead then if I wanted to go bigger later I’d add some more warriors

I haven’t posted before so couldn’t figure out how to put the picture but it’s in the attachments:/
Thank you

It's a fair start to a Return of the King Legendary Legion.

-You're currently sitting on 613pts (w/upgrades). If you want to play at the 600pt level, then you can drop the elven cloaks on the three hunters and call it a day.
-If you want to drop down to 500pts then you'll need to drop either Legolas or Gimli. Which ever is least useful to your playing style. You could drop some warriors, but that will leave you really short on bodies. Or you can even drop the three hunters entirely and just running a pure Dead list, in which case some of the suggestions below will be relevant.

-If you want to bump up to 700pts then you have a few options.
A banner would normally be an sensible addition, however for this Legendary Legion Aragorn actually counts as a banner for spirit models within 6". So you can save yourself 25 points and skip it if you like.
A herald of the dead is a an excellent hero choice that allows your King of the Dead to mooch the heralds Will to use as Might, very useful considering the King only has 1might to start with. Also gives resistant to magic to any friendly spirit models within 3". Not bad for 70pts.
Some riders would also be a good choice but i'm not really sure how many you'd need for a list like this. You've got points for 3 though.
Another option is forgo the either the riders or herald (or both) and just add more warriors. You're always going to be out numbered when playing Dunharrow, so getting as many bodies on the table as you can is useful. Giving every warrior a shield is good too as it takes your Defence up to 8 and makes you quite hard to shift in 1 to 1 combat. If you take more warriors consider taking a few more spears for supporting attacks.

Hope that is helpful to you.

Wow that’s great! I think I’ll finish what I have and repaint the three hunters to play at 600.
Hopefully I can get some games in as I’ve never played and see what I need.
The heralds sound really good but it’s an expensive buy for me as I already have the king of the dead… though the new model does look much better.
Warriors seem cheap to buy so I’ll pick up some more plus some riders later on

Thanks for the advice

I've played these guys in a couple of tournaments now and they're actually quite fun.

What I've found however:

- Riders are useful but not very dangerous with their low fight value (I seemed to end up playing a lot of fight 4+ armies). They are also surprisingly vulnerable to shooting if they end up the only viable targets.

- Put shields on everyone, it's worth it.

- Legolas is incredibly useful. You have no mounted heroes, so using Legolas to try and snipe enemy mounted heroes off their horses is good to prevent one of them running in, knocking over aragorn and murdering him in one fight...

- Competitively you'd want to bring, Aragorn, King of the Dead and Legolas then load out on warriors imo. But I enjoy Gimli so if it's not a big competitive tournament I like bringing him for his amazing tankiness, he's the only (living) hero that has decent defence in the list.

And one final thing is watch out for people using your heroes as easy charge targets, they're the least armoured and the only things that don't cause terror.

It's quite a good army to learn about positioning because of that.

And here's my boys:
