Hey everyone, I just joined the site with the intent of crossposting a running fanfic that I've been working on over on B&C for over a year now called 40k Alternate Timeline (internally known as Dreams Fall Apart). My hope is to get more feedback and potentially find someone interested enough in the story that I can DM ideas to them before committing to them.

To give some info about the story before I move onto saying what parts of the hobby I'm in, I'll give a brief description of it.

The first phase of the Great Crusade ended in triumph, Horus the Warmaster having led the Imperium to victory in the century long and brutal war against the Interex Coalition. Centuries later the Emperor re-emerges and announces a new crusade into the Webway. Rejoicing in the return of the Emperor, the Imperium musters its forces.

For millennia the Imperium crusaded through the Webway, purging all those that it came across. Just when victory seemed assured, a dark pact is made and the Eldar fall to the Dark Gods of Chaos. Against a species of unrestrained psykers, the Imperium's forces are slaughtered trying to hold the ground they had spent millennia taking. Now pushed out of the Webway, the Emperor manages to permanently seal the Terran Gate.

Across the galaxy pleas for help are sent out by countless Imperial worlds as they are ravaged by the Chaos Eldar in an event that would come to be known as the Reaping. To make matters worse, the Orks have made a resurgence amidst the chaos. Empowered by Gork and Mork, launching from newly created Scrapworlds, dozens of Waaaghs are led by savage Beasts across the Imperium.

Now many years of stalemate later, peace is a distant dream growing ever fainter as new threats continue to appear, and there is Only War as mankind holds the line for the promise given by the Emperor at the founding of the great Imperium of Man, that there is good left in the galaxy, and that it is worth fighting for.

Now onto my experience with the hobby.

I first heard of 40k in 2017 and started getting into the lore then. I spent the next couple years fascinated by the Horus Heresy novels and coming up with alternate timelines/universes and playing around with how I think things might have turned out. Throughout that time I had a passing interest in the tabletop but FW resin seemed too expensive and I hear conflicting reports on it's quality/ease to work with, so I let it remain just that, a passing interest.

When I heard that GW was going to be relaunching the Heresy in plastic I decided to finally take the plunge into the tabletop and have found a decent sized Heresy group about 30 minutes from my house. There were several legions I had an interest in but in the end I decided I wanted to be a loyalist and chose the Ultramarines. I really liked the whole theoretical/practical thing they have going for them. Since buying Age of Darkness I've bought many tanks and am looking forward to getting my hands on the new Jetbikes.
