Hi - I bought a Warhammer 40,000 Recruit Edition starter box and have the following models:-

- 1x Royal Warden
- 10x Necron Warriors
- 3x Canoptek Scarab Swarms

I bought a pack of 2nd hand -5x Necron Immortals (can alternatively be built as Deathmarks)

How many Necrons are there in a standard squad of Immortals and Deathmarks? I don't have a codex yet

I was thinking of adding the combat Patrol set next which would give me the following models:-

– 1x Necron Overlord
– 10x Necron Immortals (can alternatively be built as Deathmarks)
– 3x Tomb Blades
– 1x Night Scythe (can alternatively be built as a Doom Scythe)

Does anyone have any advice on what way I should build these models?
Or better units to get?
What to get next?

TIA

5 is the minimum for Immortals and Deathmarks, up to a squad size of 10.

You're going to want to build the Immortals as, er, Immortals to fill out some Troops options.

That would give you:

HQ - Overlord
HQ - Royal Warden
Troops - 10 Warriors
Troops - 5 Immortals
Troops - 5 Immortals
Fast Attack - Swarms
Fast Attack - Tomb Blades
Flyer - Doom Scythe (this is the slightly more expensive one but it has more guns on it!)

As for what to get next, I'd say a few more Warriors to bulk out your Troops choices and enable you to condense your Immortals into a single squad of 10.

Write a list for about 1,000 points and play a game or two, and see what you think you'd like to add

Wot he said.

Definitely build your Immortals as Immortals.

I’d need to check my Codex, but I think if you’re planning on condensing two units of five into one unit of ten, keep in mind I don’t think you can mix the weapons!

You can't mix weapons, no, so build them as Immortals all with either Tesla Carbine or Gauss Blaster. My advice would be to use the Gauss Blaster as it has a much better AP value of -2.

To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be relearned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.

One unit I would recommend is skorpek destroyers. a) they are one of the best units necrons have atm b) h2h punch always useful. I have beaten necrons repeatedly with blood angels when necrons had no melee threat whatsoever. I simply hit him in melee and rolled in. It's too optimistic to be able to shoot enemy off board before they reach combat.

Incidentally that's how I curb stomped votann as well. They didn't have counter melee so t2 when I reached into melee it was bye bye.

Skorpeks are threat in melee that others can't ignore. They hit hard.

Never underestimate scarabs! Consistently the MVP in every game I play with Necrons.

"Courage and Honour. I hear you murmur these words in the mist, in their wake I hear your hearts beat harder with false conviction seeking to convince yourselves that a brave death has meaning.
There is no courage to be found here my nephews, no honour to be had. Your souls will join the trillion others in the mist shrieking uselessly to eternity, weeping for the empire you could not save.

To the unfaithful, I bring holy plagues ripe with enlightenment. To the devout, I bring the blessing of immortality through the kiss of sacred rot.
And to you, new-born sons of Gulliman, to you flesh crafted puppets of a failing Imperium I bring the holiest gift of all.... Silence."

There’s a shiny new somewhat discounted Boarding Party set which might appeal.

I’ll leave it those who know the modern game whether those might be useful, but it’s a nice selection of models you either don’t have right now, or can always do with more of.

Wish this box had come out before I built my own Deathmark based KT. It'd have saved me a few $s.

It's okay? You're getting cryptek, 5 deathmarks with some decorative bits, and parts to build lesser versions of cryptek and warden (who have no 40K rules ATM IIRC but can be played as generic version of these two units, or used to make prettier version of squad leader). The only issue is that you're not getting legs for the upgrade bits so you either need to scrounge up two pairs of necron legs from somewhere or kitbash the torsos with something to replace the missing bits (such as two plasmacytes you also get in KT box, there are multiple necron models with serpentine lower halves so there is a precedent for these).

That is, if you only want to play 40K, if you also want to play Kill Team, I guess build them as is, then use leftover immortal bits to upgrade some of your warriors into immortals...

Ty guys - the upgrade sprue would be useful on its own - might get the box online from the sellers with 20% or so off - some nice options
