Introducing Warlord Resin Plus™

We’ve been hard at work perfecting Warlord Resin™, and we’re incredibly excited to reveal the fruits of our labours – Warlord Resin Plus™! This new formulation differs from the current Warlord Resin™ in a number of ways and we’re so satisfied with it that for the first time we will be producing miniatures for our most popular games system, Bolt Action, in Warlord Resin Plus™ (WLR+).

What is Warlord Resin Plus™?
Warlord Resin Plus™ is a brand new variation on the existing Warlord Resin™ which brings a significant number of advantages over traditional metal figures.

Feels like hard plastic – but better! Less flexible than its predecessor, Warlord Resin Plus™ retains the feel of hard plastic, but has a level of springiness that leads to excellent durability.

Easy to work with – Warlord Resin Plus™ can be filed, clipped, scraped, and cut just as easily as metal, and requires only a simple dab of superglue for assembly.

Lighter than metal – No more sore arms and bad backs from enormously heavy figure cases!

Enhanced surface quality – Fine details are crisper than ever before, and paint adheres far better than on metal figures.

No need to prime or varnish! Simply apply paint directly to the model – the new formula eliminates the need for priming and ensures a far more durable result.

Non-toxic – Unlike traditional resin and metal miniatures, Warlord Resin Plus™ does not produce potentially harmful dust when worked with. We still don’t recommend eating your models, though (although this plant-based resin is vegan-friendly)!

Zero waste resin – In-house production of Warlord Resin Plus™ uses a waste reclamation system to ensure that no resin is thrown away during manufacturing. Unlike traditional plastic, this new material is completely recycled and re-used in our factory.

This is incredibly dishonest and dangerous advice. Conventional resin is chemically inert, the dust hazard is a physical hazard and common to all forms of fine dust. Plastic dust, wood dust, they're all bad. If you saw or sand this new product you will produce the exact same dust hazard as any other material.

Unlike traditional plastic, this new material is completely recycled and re-used in our factory.

And this I am extremely skeptical of. Resin is a polymer where the raw materials go through a chemical reaction to form the finished product. It's not like injection molded plastic where you're melting plastic pellets and recovered waste material works just as well, to re-use resin you'd have to chemically break down the polymer chains and separate out the raw materials. I can't imagine there's any practical process for doing this.

Huh, since when does Warlord sell their resin under a trademarked term. Is that a recent development?

Is this a known technology that someone can point to (like SiOCAST)?

I've never had much luck with "primerless" minis. Water thinned paints tend not to adhere, so curious how this is different. The Youtube video seems promising.

Are the pictured minis a possible foray into 13mm proprietary ww2?

They will likely be like the minis they have in the box for SPQR

Sounds like Reaper Bones material. I wonder if it will become sticky when primed and repel water-thinned paints.

They could also just grind it up and use it as a filler in a new batch of resin, although that would be something that could potentially be done with any resin, I would think.

Looks like they will be using it for bolt action soon. Wonder how much the price will increase

Likely down. There was an understanding in the discord for Warlord that likely it is to get around the rising cost of metals.

Sorry. I wrote that poorly.
I’m assuming warlord is going to get a better deal and their prices for expenses will go down.

I meant the potential for price increase for customers. They can claim more environmentally friendly and investment in the resin and/or equipment as justifiable factors.

i'd agree that the reason resin dust is harmful is it's particle size, and anything that produces fine dust, be it resin, wood, or een stuff like coal or stone is dangerous (although low density material like resin in more potentially harmful as it hangs in the air for longer before settling meaing it's easier to breath in)

the only way i can see this being safer for consumers is if it DOESN'T sand well and comes off in larger lumps rather than a fine dust

(although it could be safer for the manufacturer as the chemicals that make it up might be less, or even non toxic unlike many traditional resins)

I think they're just using it in-house rather than selling it on.

I'm sure TT Combat / Troll Trader announced a little while ago they'd just bought a resin shredder(?) to allow them to reuse/recycle it...

Found it - from their Halflings In Space! KS:

Spoiler:
TrollTrader wrote:We also won't be offering MDF terrain on this project. WHAT?! No Terrain?! Oh no, we still have terrain! We actually have something super new and exciting in that section!

We create a large amount of resin waste which is largely due to the little vents we have to fill in order to cast our miniatures.

The idea of sending all of this to landfill isn't great so we've been storing it up in a pair of shipping containers. There was always the hope that one day we would find a way to reuse it. Then we bought a grinder.

Now we can turn our vents and miscasts into resin chips that we can mix with new resin to make larger pieces, like terrain!

A quick paint job later and its ready to be gamed over.

If the recycled terrain is popular here then it will be back with a campaign all of its own!

Will this be used to replace existing BA metal weapons teams, HQ/support and artillery?

Yeah, that's what I would have assumed except for the whole "you can't do this with plastic" thing. Something is fishy about that either way. And surprise, surprise, my comment about this (and the lying about the dust issue) on their blog post was deleted. I would have expected much better from a company that is trying to be a legitimate player in the market, not just a quick cash grab by a scammer.

That doesn't say it can't be done with plastic, just that it isn't done. Which is probably true - I don't think any of the current players in the plastic miniature market recycle HIPS sprues, even though it's technically possible to do.

Well hopefully this is less terrible than what they're using for victory at sea, building my starter box made me reconsider ever buying anything their name is attached to again.

so far have yet to find any range of metal models that converted to resin that were any good

GW we all know about and how well that went
Battlefront with the horrendous "flexible" resin and the faceless legions
PSC and the 100 years war stuff and similar they have

sculpts can be nice, the material seldom is

Just got the email from Warlord - 6 models in the new resin for $22.50 for the US.

Looks to be the same price as the metals (at least compared to the German sniper teams).

So it looks like its at least not a price rise.
