my BA successor has a very balanced approach to warfare, but obviously still lean towards melee.

so i'm going to take rapid assault, but i'm torn between master artisans, and whirlwind of rage.
master artisans leans into the balanced aspect while still buffing the unique BA melee units. same for rapid assault which allows SG to maintain their shooting ability while advancing to close with the enemy.

so reroll hits every round of combat, or +1 to wound on the first round of combat, with +1 to charge. i am leaning heavily towards master artisans currently. (not to mention the title is very BA themed)

If you're doing melee focused, you're mostly relegated to taking Hungry For Battle as a mandatory selection.

Depending how much you're using the Blood Angels specific units, just use the White Scars rules. Rapid Assault by itself is just trash

lets me advance and shoot most every gun I have without a negative effect when advancing.

But how much of the army is going to use that, and will those units want to have the opportunity to charge?

That's why you'd either go through White Scars route or bust. Chances are your opponent will find some way to givea negative modifiers anyway, and since those won't stack you wouldn't need to worry to begin with.

How often do you win or lose games, because your DC or sang guard couldn't shot lets say a turn more? I don't think it happens enough often enough to warrent a shoting ability in an army which that wants to do assaults. You want and assault army you take assault buff, you want speed you take speed stuff and you want to shot you take the shoting ones.
The only time this rule get broken is when you get something for free and it is hyper efficient. So lets say for some reason GW decides one day that a unit of BA intercessors or tacticals should be able to field one guy running around with two rottor cannons for free in a squad of 5. And then they buff the rules for rottor canons, and then you can start thinking about running a succesor BA melee army that spams 6 squads of regular intercessors and 3 squads of veterans alongside some support.
Till that happens you take HfB and something else that buffs melee.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.
