I have to say it, I absolutely love this model! I love the new DA paint scheme that doesn’t rely on yellow green highlights. Looking forward to seeing how they did it.

Strangely my favourite thing is that the lion has aged. I expected him to look like his HH model because RG didn’t age but I guess he was in stasis and the lion was just asleep.

Looks like cypher is hanging on to the lion sword.

Not going to lie...I thought it was Luthor at first glance...how Lion had aged was a shock to me.

Personally I prefer the cowled helm or winged helm look.

Why were people expecting him to have not aged? Genuine question.

I just hadn’t thought about it, I suppose we use don’t have a frame of reference for it, the primarchs we see in 40K are demons or free from stasis.

Also I think I expected them to be effectively ageless like a marine is effectively immortal. It just begs more questions about the nature of the primarchs.

Will he die of natural causes?
He grew to be a full grown man in caliban quickly (none of the primarchs had normal length childhoods) so why after 10k years has aged, what looks like, 30 years from a man in his mid 20’s to mid 50’s
Is it just his appearance that’s changed or does he make that groaning noise every time he gets out of a chair?
Is it impossible to think of something to get him for birthdays and Xmas?

Guilliman did not age, but people forget he was literally in a Stasis field. Also, we do not have that much of a frame of reference to deduce if Primarchs do even age like people, the loyalist ones are all gone and the traitors are either straight-up Demon Princes or so soaked in warpstuff that the difference does not really matter.

I don't think he looks particularly aged, just... mature adult. Especially not on the model, which just looks blond.

What I find confusing is that he's being cast as 'the one person in the galaxy who can stand against Angron.' Uh... why? The classic confrontation with Angron was with Russ before the actual Heresy. Post ascension, just shoot him with lascannons. Its never going to be a proper duel, so... yeah. Don't get it.

Also the 'knight alone' when there are watchers on his base. That's a bit funny.

I do find the hood + bare face kind of funny: Its Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow!

It's because you can buy him now, and you can't buy Russ If they made a model of Sherlock Obiwan Clouseau, he'd be the only person that could stop Angron instead. It all just operates under comic book rules now, just accept it. Ignore the marketing drivel and hope that the actual story is at least well-enough written by the standards of the genre, i.e. pulpy schlock

It is not uncommon for CAD designers to use screen actors as 'models', you get a lot of good shots of their faces displaying various emotions, which makes it easy to do tracings, paintings or digital sculpts of them.

Shut up. Everything gw do is original, and not based on any pop culture reference etc.

:p :p :p

(Who knows if it's deliberate or not, we'll never know. We'll never even know if the lion poops gold noe either).

The funny thing is I didn't even think about House Lannister also being represented by a lion.

I'll accept that. I am just more familiar with him as a lannister.

Maybe he should be renamed?

The primarch Char les'dance?

Interesting speculation from me on Luther.

Luther was described as a Last Gasp by the Chaos Gods when their machinations on Terra failed.

They failed again, but unlike Horus, Luther of course survived.

That could….potentially….make him an Illuminati, and all that might entail.

Do keep in mind I don’t think the Illuminati were ever mentioned outside of the Realm of Chaos books, so their canonicity is iffy at best.

I do. People on Facebook have decided he looks more like Liam Cunningham who played Davos Seaworth (the onion knight).

Spoiler:

Illuminati, the sect, were not, but the concept persists in things like the Exorcists* space marine chapter, who use voluntary possession and then, well, exorcism, to gain insight into the warp and subsequent quasi-immunity and invisibility to daemons.

Apparently there’s an appendix in Throne of Light (no, me neither!) describing the Illuminati as a cult wiped out prior to the Great Rift opening.

IIRC Malcador was a member of the OG Illuminati (i.e. the conspiracy theory one from current times) and helped to wipe them out during the Unification Wars when he pledged allegiance to the Emperor.

AFAIK Malcador was comparatively young at the heresy, about 7k years or so, so that would either mean that the Illuminati managed to hang on for 20.000 years or that another group took up that name and/or mission, which of course could easily be true either way.

Ah, but OG 40K Illuminati aren’t the mind drivel of conspiracy theorism.

It’s a name for formerly possessed individuals who exorcised themself via strength of Will, rendering them immune to Chaotic temptation/corruption for the rest of their life.

As I said it’s super obscure lore stemming from 40k’s infancy. But given Luther was Chaos’s last ditch combined effort, and he survived? Could be an interesting thing for them to tie in a reunification, whole or partial.

Lion El'Johnson looks a lot like his 30k model when they have helmets on. I wonder if anyone will care if I use the 30k version in 40k.

The armor looks fine, even the helmets....but that face though it is the mustache and short hair, it just isn't the lion, i would use his 30K model every time. or at least the head...... but hey who need a primarch when you have a model of the emperor.

I want the base, for other projects. I bought Girlyman for his base, so I guess it'll be tradition.

Speaking of, I gave Guilliman to my friend, who made him into a Genestealer. I wonder what he'd do with The Lion.

‘What Lorgar’s fanatics have not seen is that these gods are nothing compared to the power and the majesty of the Machine-God. Already, members of our growing cult are using the grace of the Omnissiah – the true Omnissiah, not Terra’s false prophet – to harness the might of the warp. Geller fields, warp missiles, void shields, all these things you are familiar with. But their underlying principles can be turned to so much more. Through novel exploitations of these technologies we will gain mastery first over the energies of the empyrean, then over the lesser entities, until finally the very gods themselves will bend the knee and recognise the supremacy of the Machine-God"
