Subject: So how does GW screw up the noise of an assault cannon in a major release video?
Seriously, the sound made in the 1993 dos game Space Hulk sounds better. The one in the release video sounds like a fast firing Autocannon? It's not the BRRRRRRRT that one comes to expect, it's a CHUNK CHUNK CHUNK CHUNK, of someone who's never actually heard a minigun unaliving it's targets. Like I said, the high pitched Squeel of the dos game actually sounds close to realistic.
GOOD Sound of Assault Cannon:
BAD SOUND:
REAL Minigun:

What a Redemptor is SUPPOSED TO BE:
Seriously, how does GW make their video go live to fans of Bolterporn, with this pathetic sound. No wonder no one ever takes them in game. H3 S2 AP0 D1

well, looking at the rules for that weapon over during the editions and what how the animation usually starts, I guess the sound fits
yes, if it would be a Gatling based design it should sound different, but going with the rules, an Assault Cannon is just a .30 with easy barrel swap to avoid overheating and not a Gatling Cannon
Harry, bring this ring to Narnia or the Sith will take the Enterprise

Tbh the second the videos were up without time stamps I cba watching the whole thing just to see if a fictional weapon sounds like it might sound in the head of someone else watching it.

I thought of that same comparison with the Space Hulk dos game. I thought I was being too picky though, just put it up to my personal preference, and didn't make a post on it. Didn't actually like the assault cannon in the space hulk game though, as it had limited ammo and virtually guaranteed to run out on the later missions, leaving the terminator without a ranged weapon.

I could never get it to fire a single shot, no matter how I clicked it always seemed to register as a double-click that fired off half your ammo...
The lightning claws were incredible though. You could just park a guy with them in a corridor and he'd merrily take down wave after wave of stealers.

I seem to remember my sarge on guard with the parry was better overall?
I have always been upset they have never done bolter sounds right. I think only the ian watson books made an attempt to do so though (firing, exiting, boosting to target, entry and detonation...). Saying that only the confrontation WD game gave them the damage chart they deserve!
And yes, the assault cannon should 100% sounds like a gatling...

The sound of bolter fire in the whole cinematic was pretty muted so it isn't just the AC that sounds too quiet. One thing going for the cinematic is that the rate of fire of the AC is much lower than real miniguns so it probably wouldn't have the same drone.

To be honest, I felt like the entire video was of a lesser quality then we've seen with ALL GW's videos in the past. Like, compare this with 9th's video.
9ths had soaring music, crisp and clear definition, great sound, good voice acting, and wasn't too dark to actually see what was happening.
This video looks like a fight scene from one of the Jason Bourne movies. The blurry shaky camera, the bad lighting, hard to see, soft lines, bad audio, it wasn't even close to the gameplay trailer for Space Marine 2.
GW didn't even try on this. They were banking on fanboi stuff. HEY LOOK ITS BOBBY G!!! Hey LOOK ITS A TERMINATOR LIBRARIAN! HEY LOOK, ITS A GUN NO ONE USES OR HAS USED IN OVER A DECADE BUT LOOKS COOL!!!
I'd have preffered this was Dante instead of Bobby, watching his forces get cut down and destroyed, expressing his doubts. That would have impacted more. This was just boring and dull.

You have to try pretty hard to pretend that the trailer was boring or dull, given the rabid reactions online. Wild take.

The 9E trailer had nothing besides Imperial plot armor galore. Just watched it again, so bad.
Stiff animations, bad voice acting, horrible action. SoB praying away a Gauss hit, parrying a Skorpekh Hyperphase Reap-Blade with a Chainsword, and Necrons getting dispatched by single sword/bolter hits all over the place. Horrible BS.

Oh noo, opinions! Waaah!
They're right though.
The OP is right, the sound for the Assault Cannon is lackluster. If I were in charge of that cinematic I absolutely would have had it changed. I'm sorry that pointing this out, or the tone of the criticism triggers you.
Here are two more examples of it being done better:

I find it quite funny to find the most inane, most pointless, most rivet-counter-y thing someone complains about for every GW release, this is definitely up there.

Counterpoint: Actual audio of assault cannon is easily and readily available.

There is such a thing as an "own goal."
Most productions don't use real firearm sounds because they often don't sound right when captured, so this doesn't solve the problem.

Better minigun sound design examples are also quite available. It's a solved problem with readily available examples of solutions.
I have always been upset they have never done bolter sounds right....
Dark Tide, for its many failings, has bolsters how they’re supposed to be. They feel heavy and sound powerful; with a single shot blowing massive chunks out of human sized enemies, and nearby impacts (hitting the wall or floor beside them) sending those same enemies staggering away from the detonation.
It's minor. This is the best of I've seen of Warhammer at this length minus a few fan shorts. By the end I was ready to grab the gauge and go fight for the imperium.

Yeah, the sounds were pretty muted for all of the firearms. The AC wasn't any worse than the bolters or the lack of roaring flames from the flamer. I assumed the muted sounds of combat were a stylistic choice.

Or this is just a different weapon with a different rate of fire.
