That was my favorite HH book for a while, still probably is. It was also the first one I read, and read the first 3 afterwards, and because it's mostly about Death Guard and Isstvan there wasnt much lost on me.

It was the first 40k novel I read that featured dialogue from an actual Primarch, and Morty at that. Oh times were simpler then.

It’s actually remarkable how little emphasis is put on the drop site massacare in the HH novels given how important of an event it was. Flight of the Eisenstein is one of the few books that kind of touches upon it. Also Garro is heavily featured in many books going forward.

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary.

It's not something that can really be done outside of a few books because it's largely just generic battle stuff.
The only major events are:
- Fulgrim vs Ferrus which gets covered in Fulgrim.
- The opening salvo of the reinforcing Legions betraying the first wave which gets covered in First Heretic.
- The fighting retreat which gets covered and mentioned in a few different books.
Apart from that, it's just normal battle stuff and not really worth it for books that require stories. It was brilliantly covered in the Black Books though because that kind of publication didn't need to adhere to narrative structure.
