Seems like a good time to start a new thread on this. The KS is now live.

Well, with the non-homogeneous starters, this feels much more like an Infinity-sized small-scale skirmish game with heavily mixed units activating individually instead of the more squad-based games of the past.

In general, the minis are an improvement over last time and have a lot more individual character now that they aren't multi-purpose multi-part unit boxes. Doing it this way also means they didn't have to shoehorn the concept on to armies where it didn't fit in the last campaign (*cough*Mishima*cough*). This also means being able to start with a higher number of iconic units in each box rather than having to do exactly two similar looking ones for each. On the other hand I am still iffy on Siocast as a material since some implementations of it have seemed to have a steep learning curve.

On the fence about whether or not to wait for retail. I just dropped a bunch on BattleTech, and while I'd love to have some Venusian Rangers, not sure if I can justify it. Probably keep my eye on it for now and see whether or not it implodes again.

The miniatures are not particularly good and with strange proportions and the fact its siocast theres little chance I will look any further into this.\\
Best of luck

I'm currently in for Skirmish with Mishima and Brotherhood...mostly for nostalgia reasons. I have a huge number of original and Prodos figures, and every edition of the rules...but my local player base is now 30K and Battletech.

If they continue past this, I will pick up whatever Mishima, Brotherhood and Ilian figures they make, but I'm not sure how much of a market exists for Warzone anymore.

The miniatures look improved compared with the amateurish ones offered previously but they're still (on purpose) done in the 90's chonky retro style asthetically so I'm not interested. I still have some of my old OG actual 90's chonky warzone figs but I wish those gamers who are looking for more luck with this crowdfunding and hope it scratches their itch.

Took a look at the miniatures. Some weird proportions here and there, and the dancing syndrome carried over from Prodos line. Funnily, the Legionaries look the best, despite (or perhaps because of) the retro influence. One of the Mortificators is nice too.

Think I'll keep trucking with my little sculpting project and give this a pass, though I do wish them success. Maybe a year from now I'll have someone to play with my 3d prints.

Mishima and Brotherhood look like the winners to me. Still, better wait for retail MM blowout sales.

As a fan of the chunky 90s minis, these look great! I hope the game is fun and does well for a few years before it dies.

Same. I was planning to get Bauhaus and Algeroth but IMHO those are the worst looking sets on offer. I guess nobody told Algeroth that you should never go full nineties because every one of the minis in the starter is goofy AF.

Still, even at the relatively steep price ResNova have my axe (er, $$$) because this is Warzone and anyone willing to have a turn holding this particular hot potato deserves my support!

I'm not bothered with the 90s look, I even prefer it over more stylized figures. The mixed boxes are also an improvement over the double duty offerings from the failed KS.

All that said unfortunately I'm not going to join the KS, the shipping kills any savings, and there is no PDF only option of the manual.

Can I just warn anyone that is considering backing this to check the other thread about this game and it's multiple failed attempts. I only happened to read it because it was right next to this one in the index, glad I did, won't be backing.

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples

The rule book section they have posted says that a game involves between 10 and 20 models on average.

Are the faction starters playable forces or are they assuming other figures to play?

I thought the nearly unlocked Venusian Rangers expansion box was promising until I looked closely at the Ranger's masks and realized that Res Nova decided to give them all rabbit buck teeth. I guess this was the design compromise they settled on, not wishing to replicate the admittedly goofy full set of upper jaw teeth on the original metal models, but this isn't an improvement. Paired with their "angry eyebrows" (which would look cool by themselves,) the buck teeth make the Rangers look like frustrated, constipated, skull-faced chipmunks.

I'd be a lot happier if that little space beneath their noses had been left blank.

A bit of a bummer that the unit boxes will repeat the sculpts from the starter boxes but I guess with presumably 5 models per unit box the numbers don't really add up to have alternate starters instead.

Hmm, yeah, that's really the only problem with them. Instead of keeping it all level, the did a graded curve down. Otherwise, really close to the original art and a vast improvement over the 1st Edition sculpts that never got the Kev White treatment.

Hopefully enough folks actually involved in the KS raise the issue for a minor tweak to be made. Either way, not bad enough to sink 'em (and will probably look fine painted), so I'll probably grab a couple boxes of those at retail to replace my old metal ones.

The updated Chasseur definitely look good though, and should line up pretty well with the 2nd Edition sculpts (while having more of the flare of the 1st Edition designs, which I prefer over the more greebly look of 2nd Edition Cybertronic). Will likely need to grab some of those if this ends up getting to retail.

I'll be interested to see if they eventually do old-school Wolfhead Dragoons down the line. Updates to those would be pretty nice (I prefer them over the more generic gas mask dudes of 2nd Edition).

I mostly agree, with the notable exception of the old metal Venusian Marshall, which remains an awesome sculpt and a great translation of Paul Bonner's painting.

As for these new Siocast ones, I sure hope painting them will be enough to vanish those "teeth." If not, some puttying could do the trick, although that's a bit more effort than I'd prefer.

I'm just a little surprised and disappointed that they decided to hold off on doing Machinators. I'm a sucker for Cyber-Skeletons, and they'd help distinguish Cybertronic more from the other human factions.

I like the old Wolfhead Dragoons, too. The old-school ones walk that line between cool and silly, but done right, an update would be excellent.

This campaign seems to be doing well, they have unlocked 14-16 expansion boxes and hopefully will have another 7 to unlock soon. The nostolgia is hitting me hard, was my favorite game back in the day.

Is this a 'true' skirmish type of game, with not a lot (?) of miniatures on either side?

The rules say 10-20 minis per side, so basically the equivalent of Infinity (pre-N4). This is also pretty close in scale to WZ 1st edition, where a character and 2-3 squads was a pretty average game size (with most squads being 3-6 minis at the time).

So they're definitely sticking to the small-scale skirmish roots of the game (which I prefer, the Action Point system always worked better with smaller armies).

The Land of the Rising Sun

One week to go and the KS will probably reach $150k but unless things change dramatically I don't think it would explode. I'm musing about bitting the bullet of the post, and getting the Pretorian Stalkers. I don't know why but cannot have enough of those figures.

Probably a good guess as to the total amount at the end.

Given the history here, both with this company's version and the overall history of the property, and without the lure of free models (I don't think there are...any free models?), it certainly isn't going to go crazy at this point.

Still, I like Bryan CP Steele's overall game design 'philosophy' and I absolutely LOVE what he did with Dark Age so...I'm in for a couple of starters and some add-ons.

Now, to fins someone else around me to play this with - the Eternal Struggle!

Yeah, this thing was never going to go crazy, not with this IP and not with those prices and the lack of freebies. But as long as RN didn't kid themselves about how much money this was going to make and their funding goal was a realistic reflection of the money they needed to raise.. who cares?

We are so spoiled by the bigger companies that we sometimes forget: KS is about paying over the odds so that something can exist, and helping it exist has to be at least as important to you as what you get out of it. Give it 18 months and all this stuff will be available at retail for less than what it costs on the KS. Give it 3 years and it will all be available in the bargain bin for $10 per box because that is just the Warzone lifecycle.

With Bryan involved, at least this edition will be fun while it lasts

Well, it. Threw in for the rules and a couple of unit boxes. The rules look solid enough and keep things to the scale I like, so may as well throw some support their way, even if just a little bit.

Maybe this time me and my other Warzone/MC fantatic friend can get the rest of the group in before it folds this time.
