This month, we were prepping for Doomsday: The end is nigh! Whether a crazed cultist prophesising the end of the world, or a vicious warlock ready to commit such acts themselves, each entry should be themed around an apocalyptic event, either one to come, one that has already happened or one that will occur as soon as your entry opens fire!

As always, you're free to hand out as many votes as you like, and for any entry you feel deserves recognition, based on anything from technical proficiency ro model choice, a neat conversion or a cool take on the theme, or anything else! You're also very welcome to leave some feedback here for the entrants, and many of the images click through to the Dakka gallery if you'd like to give out a vote or two there as well.

Many votes were cast, like it's the end of the world tomorrow or something...

theCrowe: Simple mini but very expressive and the paint job really makes it shine - my eye's drawn to the book and his little claws particularly.
Daia T'Nara: You could've painted that dripping ooze literally any other colour, you know that right?
JoshInJapan: Now that's a Doomray - great glows, and the energy coruscating up the barrel.
Leopold Helvine: That's a hell of an Ork (literally)!
Geifer: Great work on the brown and black leathers, and very convincing lightsaber glow.
XvArcanevX: That spear blade looks really good, and the hard, cold colours of the armour really fit into the snowy landscape.
youwashock: Damn that's a lot of detail, everywhere I look on the mini the paintwork's impressive.
Flinty: Great squadron, those ashy grey hulls are very intimidating.
inmygravenimage: Wonderful collection of minis, love the lighting on the priest, and that flotsam base.
Captain Brown: A classic right out of the era I got into 40k proper, the shading on the Reaper's helmet is a nice touch.
Vejut: I love the regal blue and gold on what's left of the clothing.
Midget Gems: I mean why would there be a button if it wasn't meant to be pushed? Great scene, especially all the wear and tear and grime on the 'interesting object'.
Mr Nobody: Very creepy, especially the shroud-like cloak.
Jadenim: That's gonna mess up somebody's day. Great work on the hull dust and picking out all the rivets and panel lines, it really looks like a sizeable vehicle rather than a miniature.
Perkustin: Very ominous-looking chap, I like the chains and the metal skull on his standard particularly.
Pariah Press: Oh that takes me back (not necessarily in a good way, I was often trying not to be on the receiving end of those flamer bolt-ons), the yellow edging on his hood and the red cloak look great.
JamesY: Wonderful work, looks like he stepped out of a brooding painting.
Nevelon: Recently did some cultists myself and enjoyed the minis a lot, you really got a great result with these two.
Maharg: Great shading on that armour, and the cloak is lovely.
Gulgog TufToof: Love the grimy suit, really feels like he's straight out of a proper smoke-and-grease-filled 40k factory.
ZergSmasher: Very snazzy paint job, glad you put this entry in even without the finished bases - the gold trim really pops.
DJJazzyJeff: Now that's adorably creepy, especially backed up by all the detail on the base.

Struggling about in Asmos territory.

Holy Dakkoly this is a tough one because of so many great entries..
Well.. gotto choose something..

My votes go to;

-Midget Gems: That kaboomathing is really well sculptured and the diorama just speaks for itself nailing the theme right on.
-Perkustin: That colorscheme is quite strict but eyecandy to me, how it contrasts with the martian soil is epic.
-James Y: those light effects are super bright and impressive, and how they contrast with the cold green steel is sweet, like Perkustin's entry I really love the colorscheme.
-Nevelon: another colorscheme hard to ignore, making this vote so hard because so many great entries, but I have to give this a point, really has that doomsday feel.
-Tuftoof: For some reason I thought those goggles were his eyes and his eyes were goofy teeth, having looked at the model from the side I realised that wasn't the right impression haha.. anyway, the paintscheme looks so clean as if it could be bought at a toystore. I guess that cultists always have a natural doomsday theme to them anyway so thats a hit too. Love the subtle purle on his flask (or whatever it is).

"Why would i be lying for Wechhudrs sake man.., i do not write fiction!"

Thanks for all the votes so far. They are really appreciated. My comments on the other entries;

theCrowe it's a really good paint job, but the base is cracking. Really nice extra details on a lovely little model.

Daia T'Nara great conversions and a clean and distinctive paint job. You can see all the details of your conversions really well. Thank you also for your kind words on my entry.

JoshInJapan one of my favourite entries. It fits the theme perfectly, and your colours and painting style have really done it justice. I think that, were it a gw model, you'd be well out in front.

Leopold Helveine I like the textures that you've created on him. Nice work. Thank you to you also for your kind words on my entry.

Geifer you've done a great job with what is quite a dull colour palette that you've had to copy. You've made it look interesting and his eyes look sharp.

XvArcanevX I like the contrast of the cold colour palette with the red cloak. The base looks great as well.

youwashock he looks a right beast! I really like the textures and the attention to colour saturation on him. The colour choices work really well, and the base compliments those well.

Flinty I'm not normally a mech fan, but they do look great and very imposing. I think that you've done a great job on the weathering, and bringing out all of the details on the dark grey areas especially.

inmygravenimage they all look perfect for the setting, and the shadows and highlights are really clear and crisp. The light on the torch bearer's head looks good.

Captain Brown old school Eldar will always have a special place in my nostalgia bank. The blending on the red helmet looks especially good, but those alien trees steal the show.

Vejut you've done a really good job of making every detail really clear and easy to see, which on a model like that takes serious effort. The colour choice works really well, also.

Midget Gems another one of my favourites. Great idea and execution. It's a fantastic effort, and I'm sure that you had a lot of fun telling people that you were building a bomb for a competition on the internet

Mr Nobody I don't recognize the model, but I really like it and you've done a great job on it. The textures contrast well against each other. It's subtle, but the more you look at him, the more sinister he looks.

Jadenim lovely and crisp. I think that you've incorporated the decals from the box really well, and it's nice to see them used well, rather than in a pile in a draw. Panel lines look really nice and neat too.

Perkustin great job on such a limited palette. The monochrome colours make him look really sinister, but it's the vexilla that really shows the skill that's gone into it.

Pariah Press another hit square in the nostalgia chops. Really neat and tidy paint job. Looks just like any self respecting redemptionist should look.

Nevelon I really like the snow base on the gscultist, the grass poking out the top sells the effect beautifully. Nice choice of colours as well, especially as it looks like a combo of you own, rather than one from the gw books?

Maharg He looks great, but you've done a especially good job on the back, the blending on his cloak and the highlights on the fur look really smooth. Really nice to see the backs get as much attention as the front.

Gulgog TufToof I like your colour choices; he looks like he's breaking out of a penitentiary and gearing up as he finds more useful equipment. Orange and black isn't the most fun combo to paint, either. You've done a good job of keeping the black out of the orange.

ZergSmasher nice and vibrant colour choices. Keeping the panel colours uniform across all of the models helps stop it look like a colour riot, and helps just appreciate the palette. The assassins won't have many shadows to hide in with all those bright colours.

DJJazzyJeff you've managed to make her look more terrifying than the landscape she's in with those sinister eyes. Nice work.

Really, really happy that so many people gave my model their ‘thumbs up’

Great work all round I think and I have thoroughly enjoyed participating!

Thanks to this forum for all the support and the admins for their part in making all this so pleasant and easy to be a part of for a newcomer like me…it’s nice to have a place to share the hobby.

Thanks for the votes so far and the kind words all.

I don’t play either chaos/GSC, do don’t have books to peruse for paint schemes. The red on the chaos one was the same setup I used for the SoB arcoflagelents/repentia. Two reasons for this. One, I like the mirror of both loyalist and chaos zealots looking the same. Secondly, if I do end up falling to chaos, it will be to the blood and brass of Khorne, so red will fit right in.

GSC was simpler. Same palette as my leviathan tyranids. Armor (carapace) is purple, skin is beige (guiliman flesh wash. The cultist’s pants got multiple layers to differentiate from his skin, much like I use 2 coats on the wing membranes to make them stand out). The bugs get red claws/guns, which I didn’t want to carry over to the cultists, so he got red armbands to make sure he had the tertiary color of the swarm.

Great work, everyone! Congratulations to all the winners-- it's pretty crowded up there at the top! I'm sorry for not commenting this time around. The long holiday last week had me too busy to visit Dakka for more than a few minutes at a time.

Now showing The Fellowship of the Ring, along with some Dreadball Captains!

Painting total as of 4/13/2024: 31 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain

Painting total for 2023: 79 plus 28 Battlemechs and a Dragon-Balrog

Woops, it’s been 5 days, I should wrap this one up. Another packed podium. Having a lot of trouble choosing the form of your destruction out there. or y’all just really like to make me work here.

In 3rd place with 17 votes is Daia T'Nara with Sister Verity, bearer of the Domesday Book of Slaanesh (and Scientia, her pet lectern). Because reading is fundamental!

First of the two-way tie for second with 19 votes is:

JoshInJapan -- Dr. Johan and his Doomray. Mad science is the best science, and nothing says “Doom” like giant deathrays.

Although sometimes it’s best to go with the classic end of days, with armies from the Northern Wastes pouring down to crush all civilization, lead by XvArcanevX's Chaos Lord

And at 21 votes each, the winners three.

youwashock’s Apocalypse. Devoured by a giant monster is a fine way for the world to end.

But for a quick and easy Doom, all you need to do is "Push the Button” as shown by Midget Gems

Or tear the galaxy apart in an endless future of warfare with JamesY's Praetor of the Sons of Horus

--

As always, great work from everyone, especially those on the podium. So many amazing ways for the world to end. Keep up the good fight against the Pile of Shame in this month’s comp, Mistakes Were Made. (which may or may not end up resulting in more doom)

Wait what, seriously? Wow, thanks everyone! Well that settles it, the rest of my chaos sisters are definitely having their cloaks repainted from their current cold green to match Verity's pink colour scheme.
