I've got a group of Wrath of Kings models, and they're that bendy type of plastic. Does anyone know if regular spray can paint will work to prime them? I've had some other models with similar plastic (Super Dungeon Explore) that had a bad reaction to spray cans and it made them sticky, but I don't know if it's the same.

Anyone with experience?

The WoK figures are bendy plastic? What set is that?

I built some from the House Shael-Han starter, and they were just standard model plastic. Used plastic cement, not superglue, like you'd have to with the soft toy plastic.
EDIT: Forgot to mention. Primed and painted them without difficulty.

Anyway, the soft plastic will take primer. Just do not expect much. I've primed Airfix figures in the past, and it does stick, but since the plastic will flex, both the primer and the paint will crack and fall off. Unless there is no other option, one should not paint bendy plastic. {At the time, I did not have any other option for Napoleonics, so I painted the Airfix ones.}

I've used normal primer successfully with Wrath of Kings models. I typically just use Krylon ultra matte

I've painted quite a few Wrath of Kings models using GW primer. I never had any issues:

Thanks everyone, I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm using both the House Hadross starter and Pit Fighters boxes. They're different from the hard plastic of GW, but they're not quite soft board game plastic.

Please let us know how it turns out. I do have an interest as I own the House Hadross starter, and the Pit Fighters box is on order.

This reddit thread might be of interest to you, there seems to be some weird interaction between a specific combination of primers and matte varnishes:

Oh man, that scorpion is a horror show! Such a tragedy.

As far as the priming, it went 100% fine. No issues with reactions or it affecting the plastic.

I used a combination of spray cans, if you'd like to know the details. All standard Home Depot stuff.

1st was Rust-oleum Painter's Touch 2x Ultracover Paint+ Primer (full names only, pls) in black
2nd was Behr Premium in navy for a colored shadow
3rd was the same Rust-oleum brand, but in white for the zenithal highlight.

YMMV, but since the issues I've had in the past have been because of the propellant in the cans, I would expect basically any spraycan primer to work just fine on the bendier Wrath of Kings models.
