yeah you are right, it's a bit of a contrast between the plastic legs and the finecast torso, especially with the legs trimmed of the DE details. But she is almost painted and I think it is going well. I might do some freehand on the knee armour.

The pinnacle of Hive Cellarius is 16 kilometers high and is the only part of the hive city to reach above the thick black smog that blankets the planet of Andreas' World. Though the denizens of the hive labour in the gloom of poor artificial light, the nobility up in the great glass Sunspyre revel in the blinding luminosity of their star. On occasion, when the sun is directly above the hive, the nobility - members of a sun worshipping cult - open the vast shutters and let a shaft of sunlight down into the hive. Descending in this light, the cultists commit acts of ritual slaughter and execution for the brief amount of time until the sun moves in the sky and the shaft of light fades. The cultists are trained from birth in the use of ritual weapons, many of which are designed to disembowel and expose their victim's innards to the cleansing light of the sun. The act of exposing a victim's entrails to the sunlight - called a sun burial - is sacred to the cult and they believe it purifies the body.

Inquisitor Tsengir was called to investigate the Cult of the Sunspyre for acts of heresy, and on arriving in the Sunspyre found he had underestimated the size and capabilities of the cult. In the brilliant white light of the Spyre he found himself surrounded by hundreds of the softly-spoken cultists in white porcelain masks and flowing cream robes. He saw that infants were taught to worship the purity of the sun and trained to use ceremonial weapons but no sign of imperial creed was present. He recognised aspects of the cult's beliefs from ancient Terran texts and other heliocultists found in Dalthus but it seemed a strange hash of various concepts with no coherent core tenants other than the ritual of sun burial and the tradition of instruction with obscure weaponry. However, impressed by the martial proficiency of the cult and aware that he was caught in a dangerous situation, Tsengir came up with a compromise. The cult would agree that the sun was an aspect of the Emperor, and the Inquisition would be able to recruit cultists to fight for the Imperium. In return, the cult's activities would be regarded as a pure and righteous example of the Imperial Creed.

Tsengir recruited the cult's Prima Carnifexa Absoluta for his personal retinue. Although the cultists have no names they have a strict hierarchy determined by their skill, and the Prima Carnifexa Absoluta is the unquestioned first among her peers in terms of ability. The Prima agreed to join Tsengir readily, seeing it as an opportunity to purify more souls under different stars, and to test her ability as the Prima against champions from other worlds. She does not use any weapons other than the ritual disemboweling sword she was trained with from birth, a flensing knife sometimes used in the ritual preparation of the dead and a combat drug aspirator. Like the other cultists she never removes her porcelain mask, even when a bolter round destroyed the side of her face, leaving it a craterous ruin. She rarely speaks and prefers to fight only in daylight, considering darkness as unholy. She will often perceive any extended eye-contact as a challenge and will fight to the death on such occasions. Due to her unpredictable nature, Tsengir prefers to use her as a weapon and not in situations where diplomacy is required.

Nice use of the PE logos man!

PE logos? I'm not sure what these are.

Wow, that turned out great. You did an excellent job with the painting and it brought everything together well. I originally thought the legs were going to be too plain I comparison to the rest of the model, but you have just the right amount of detail painted on there to tie them in.

She has an almost sinister religious undertone to her, like some kind of priestess of an ancient cult.

She creeps me out a little, a bit like the nurses from silent hill great paint work love the sun emblem on the knee pad.

I didn't think of her in such a "sunny" color, but I have to admit that the color scheme is superb!

Couple of things is the black scratches on the legs done by sponge or brush ? also any chance of a picture of the complete knee design all shots only show parts of it.

The black marks on the legs are sponged on and then the underneath edge highlighted white, here's a close up:

That's about as detailed as I can paint I think, the limits of my ability. It just amazes me the level of intricacy some people can paint at. The main problem I get is that I will water my paint right down until it is smooth enough for this level, hold my breath, position my brush hairs and move them and nothing will come off the brush. Seems very difficult to get a good flow when dealing with such tiny amounts of paint.

Next up I've been working on a Vindicaire Assassin. He is an NPC, not part of the retinue:

He'll be all in dark colours, the cape is a camouflage sheet he would use to disguise his gun while he sits there camping spawn points.

the death cultist free hand is most excellent , and the action posing on the vindicare seems natural. although the leg on the box is a little twisted.. then again that be because he had to change pose rapidly from sniping ,and draw his weapon on an unseen assailant.

That Vindicare is excellent really nice dynamic pose on him.

He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. I thought it was sponged but was trying to work out why it popped, that must have been the white lining underneath.

The sun emblem is some nice brush work indeed, the Vindicaire assassin has taken a turn on the butchers block, like the arm reposing and the GS work looks pretty tidy.

The only thing that looks a little odd on the leg pose for me is the foot angle, it seems like it is slipping rather than getting a steady footing, maybe twisting it so its flat on the box might help.

How did you GS the pipe by the way ? it looks pretty cool

That Cultist woman is terrifying. Great use of kits, and the fluff is excellent too. I kind of want to see you create a whole gang of them.

I really liked the "extended eye contact being considered a challenge" bit.

Vindicare is sweet too.

The Vindicaire is most excellent and the GS work is particularly fine. His pistol upsets me slighly as it looks very large, this could be a camera image thing. Either that or his arm looks too short, i can't work out which but something just is not quite gelling for me with it. I love the model overall though, a fantastic job

Something a bit different. Been working on these as I work on my Inq28 stuff:

I love Epic, look how cute these guys are. I've had to accelerate my epic plans a bit due to the lines getting discontinued and I am pretty annoyed at having missed some purchases (by the way if anyone has any epic to sell or trade, message me!)

I have big plans for these tiny tanks, and I'll probably work on them alongside full-sized models as they make a really nice change to paint.

LOL...

Wicked Epic tanks though. They look good - greenstuff, I'm guessing for the variations on their camo? And are they weathered too?

I know my cousin has some old Epic tanks, but I don't know if they're super-heavies or regular tanks, nor do I know for what army (Imperial/SM for sure). I'll get back to you as soon as I get to scrounge around again back in the 'burbs.

-Remi

-EDIT- PS - I realize I've not commented on your Deathcultist. What is there to say? The color is very original - definitely digging it. Just an overall crazy good mini. Will she have some other friends in a theme gang with that white-sun symbol?

P.P.S. - I noticed KrautScientist also has constructed a masked-deathcultist whose theme is also the "sun". Did I miss a memo somewhere...? Internal contest between you two killers?

Nah the epic40k models all had a crazy amount of detail, loads of extra camo, stowage etc. I've weathered them a lot and added some textured mud... I really like weathering.

The heliocultist will likely be a one-off. I had some ideas for some others in the cult but I don't think I will get a chance to make them, I have too much on my plate already.

There was no memo, I think Kraut just liked the idea although it's not like I invented sun cultists. On the other hand, PDH often steals my ideas. Sometimes even before I have had them.
