Love that tank- much like a beefed up Russian Mt-LB; it just needs to be more bigglier for those of us not yet (yet!) playing Gaslands. Great stuff- looking forward to seeing the Ghar, now that you have them.

I hate that with the Post Office as well, where you go by and there's nothing, and magically the package materializes during a follow-on visit. I know they are human also, it's just that my similar experiences are heavily tinged with their distinct impression that _I_ slipped up, somehow. Glad you got your goods!

Post office sucks.....I’ll just leave it at that.

I’m still stuck on how to paint up the Ghar. Right now blue and red are the forerunners, and the little unarmored guys will have a yellowish tinge to them.

Plus have I said lately I hate metal figures

to give colour suggestions is a bit hard as i know too little about this faction...the left scheme reminds me of some movie ...could be the black hole or something a bit more recent...something about Mars maybe? the yellow strip looks good...but what to do from there is currently beyond me...

also....post offices is one thing.... try to pry something out of a German custom office....be warned....Germans have no sense of humour...

oh and the cliff structure looks very cool...but....it hints of more structures to justify such a raised height...right?^^

Okay, so I think I’ve decided to go with the left, but the energy will be a different color than red. No idea yet though.
I started on one of the outcasts

I like the pop of the green as an offset to the really dark blue. Technically it’s blue/green as painting it is black basecoat, drybrush Espinoza grey, drybrush forget the next lighter grey, then coat the whole thing in corealia green shade.

I’ll post more about the Ghar later Vik . But basically BtGoA takes place in the really distant (millions of years) into the future. The Ghar were a warrior species designed off of humans and have become these little insignificant stinky ET looking things, but their armor is brutally efficient. They have very little technical skills and less interpersonal skills. They don’t know how to fix their armor, so if they fail then their armor is taken away and they are outcasts given crappy guns. There are two factions, the empire and the rebels . The rebels are led by Fartok (fart okay ) and they are trying to overthrow the empire because the commander betrayed them, but no one in the empire knows it and blames the failure on fartok.

Did a bit more by adding some black and gunmetal/silver.

The energy did not show up well in the photos, but it is a swirl (two layers) of Biel-Tan green and Druchi violet.

Thanks Wirecat , I’m liking the clash of colors.

Never noticed that the Ghar have unarmored guts, they are more like space hillbillies now with their dicky-dos (that’s slang for when your belly sticks out farther than your dicky does ).

In manner, yes . They are ill tempered little buggers who are just out to conquer. They are breed in groups similar to how the lizard men from Warhammer were described. Each lot or batch is numbered and it is brought up that the two main guys Fartok the rebel leader and Karg the leader of the empire know each other, I forget if they are the same batch or not.

Got a little paint on last night as I wasn’t ready for bed.

I got a slightly different green for the spot color as the one I used was a game color which is really watery and doesn’t do too good of coverage.

Skins are done, maybe some highlights to do, but good enough now. Shoulder and neckline trimmed in the same green as above.

Gun platforms got the spot color and guns base coated.lots more to do here, but bases also got some texture.

Also got some larger white marble rocks(decorative landscape rock) which will be for scatter terrain. I had the same stuff that I got as vase filler that has been used on bases, but these are larger and can be used for actual cover instead of just decoration. The rocks just get a coating of Reikland Fleshshade to get the red rock appearance.

That’s it for now. Thanks for stopping in.
Still trying to figure out a color for the lenses on the suits.

the green i rather like now...it´s quite the good combination to the skin tone there...also...i guess as for the lenses i think red would be a good combination as it is the complementary colour...right?...if you catch the tone right, a more subdued one to the onne green sections you did on that bigger walker? there you have that osl effect (?) part on each cheeks(?)... a darker lense effect is what i´d go for...

also thanks for the fluff insights...the two main honchos of that faction...sounds a wee bit like mork and ork...

Karg betrayed the empire in order to gain personal power, the plan was that Fartok would have been killed and looked stupid in the process, but Fartok survived, and now is uniting Ghar slaves into a formidable fighting force. Karg was able to hide his treachery and gain control of the Ghar and make Fartok look like a failure. Now Karg rides around on a Command crawler with his slave women (a human and an Algoryn).

You should try BtGoA Vik, they even have the rulebooks in german .

Did some work on the squad leader.

Also more color on the suit.

Right now Warlordgames is having a clearance sale on individual sprues on some things. Luckily Ghar assault walkers and Ghar bombers are on the sale. I just ordered 10 figs(10 sprues), and these have the bases on the sprue . They are £1 each . So with£5 shipping I’m out about $20 with the current exchange rate. The bombers usually come 1 to a box of 3 figs for $30-40. So I picked up 4 of them to go with my current 2. Set for life and then some.

The green works well- really makes the color scheme pop I like VvD's suggestions for the lenses too- gives you another contrasting color without being distracting. Maybe some highlighting/drybrushing at the joints with silver/gunmetal/light grey-blue?

Great stuff!

Thanks Meer_Cat, I like the clash of the blue and green too.

As for VvD’s suggestion, I think he was right on the money, and it was the way I was thinking of going, but I wanted to try the new GW technical paints for gemstones so I had to wait to go pick one up. Here is the outcome, I used ulthuan grey under it instead of a metallic silver though .

I think they really stick out like this, but your opinions are needed, so let me have it.

I also picked up a couple other dry colors to try out. I wanted to see if I could do a not bog standard way of getting a powerfist glow effect.

Not sure I’ll keep it, but it was a quick attempt, and might be a way to pick out the leader model in the unit.

Until later

I'm undecided about the lenses- good technical work but hard to see the reflections and depth in the pic (mind you, I've never tried to do them t all, I'm the king of 'rub some dirt on that- you'll be fine; I'm watching what you do quite keenly).

_Do_ like the coloring on the power fist though- quite a lot! You might almost could use tht to highlight any and all large moving joints on the platforms. Very good look.

Yeah, I think I need to play with the lenses more, well there’s always tomorrow as today was thouroughly shot in the face .

Peachy explains it better.

Thanks for the vote on color

So this last week has been unproductive to say the least. I think I got one base partially done, did some work on the Ghar weapon platform thing and assembled 6 torsos(yes only the torsos ) I did also play with some paints, but nothing earth shattering or even small earthquake worthy.

Added the green racing stripes to the legs and painted the metals gunmetal and the knobs silver. I don’t think I’ll be doing any OSL after playing around with it. Possibly once I get the army all together it will be different.

Hard to see the racing stripes with the way the lighting is.

That being said, I just placed another order from Warlordgames as they have added more stuff to their summer clearance sale. Too bad the apocalypse bikers are already sold out . They added Algoryn sprues to the sale so I have 40 Algoryn troops and commanders coming to bolster that contingent. I also grabbed the BtGoA dice game as they fixed the price AFTER I placed my last order. They still had it at £15.95 then, but now it’s down to £2.50. Also grabbed some bases which were not clearance, but cheap enough at about $2.50 for 25 of them.

Till next time. I’m still checking threads, but just have been quiet with my comments as my mental filter seems to be off a bit at work .

If it's clear/transparent and glossy, how is it different to the bloody blood for the blood god blood paint (yes it's different colours, except for the red/blood one), and by extension, how is it different to any clear red gloss paint?

and good progress .

Yeah, they aren’t going to give too technical of a breakdown of how the paint works, just that it does what it says on the tin. Where Bftbg is shinier and settles towards the bottom of a drop or bottom if on a vertical surface, the gemstone seems to raise to the top of the bubble of paint. So when you paint it over a metal colored part it is still translucent, but more opaque as you go to the top edge. So it gives more of a gradient to the paint like painting layers for traditional gemstones without all the layering.

You sleep what, only 4 hours or so per night? I believe that you mentioned that some time ago.

I miss my days of 4 hours of sleep. Since shortly before my father passed away my doctor has put me on an antidepressant medicine which has helped with my mood, but has also made me more tired. It’s hard getting half the stuff done that I used to, but I am sleeping 6 or more hours a night and this last week I had a day where I slept 9 hours, got up for an hour and then went back to bed for 6 more. Ruined my plans for the day, but it felt as though I needed it. I might have had a slight cold at the time, but everyday I’m tired. I have a follow up soon with the doctor to see if it’s normal or we need to change things up. It has helped with the loss though, so I’m a bit scared to change it up.

Well I received my first of 2 orders from the Warlordgames summer clearance event. 10 Ghar Battlesuits, normally £9 each, I got all 10 for £10plus £5 for shipping. Just under $20 total with the exchange rate and I have 6 more assault battlesuits and 4 more bomber battlesuits.

Not much done modeling wise. Though I did pick up some orange paints last week, a whole in my paint collection filled now. After watching a warhammertv video onpainting orange dwarf beards I decided to try it out on some of the spare heads from my Dwarf team.

The far right is a completed head (minus painting the arm armor hiding between the braids. I like the effect much better than what I had done.

Probably means a whole team repaint later on, but that is much later in the painting que.

My next Warlordgames order will probably come in two weeks. More Antares stuff, this time Algoryn which they added later, some bases and the BtGoA dice game which they fixed the price on from £15.95 down to £2.50.

Do get the Rx adjusted. Sounds like too heavy a dose.

I'm wondering is a siple coat of something like a waterbased polyurethane would emulate some aspects of the technical paint. Or maybe one of those pearlescent additives?

I’d does seem pretty iradescent in the end, but doesn’t look that way in the pot.

So not much progress painting wise, more just playing with orange and the spiritstone technical paint. But here is what result I got from painting the stones in the dwarf’s beard sycorax bronze and then putting the technical paint on top. One layer of each mind you, no highlights or shading.

Edit: managed to assemble the 28 Ghar battlesuits, at least the bodies and legs, I’ll start on weapons tonight/this week and hopefully get them primed as well. Each suit has 5 parts to the torso and three legs which each have two parts to them. That’s 168 parts of legs that I bothered to trim and at least partially remove mold lines. They have no set angle, so each Ghar suit will be at a slightly different position. They will most likely all have the same head though to make them that much more unified.

Assembled the weapons and primed the 4 Ghar Bombers.

Will try and start throwing on a few coats of paint now.
So three drybrushed coats and a heavy wash later and the main body color is done.

Primed black (cheap Walmart $0.96 can of black, drybrushed Eshin grey, stormvermin fur, and then hit power fist and engine coils with a Praxetti white drybrush. Lastly slathered on Corelia Greenshade).
The sticks coming out of the guns are just there to hold the models while I painted, they will not be painted to be the pew pew lasers.

If I were ever going to go back and redo my Scythes of the Emperor or do a black armored chapter, this is how I would do them.

Man, that Corelia Greenshade really makes the color scheme pop- what would have been kind of blah is now a very subtly done (and highly suggestive of dense armor) and realistic.

Not where I should be

Well that was a really nice catch up, you have some lovely work here bud. The models are very interesting, and you have done well with the colour schemes.

I would bet that like Red said, they have suspended a floating iridescent spec-ally stuff in a heavy varnish for the paint, though TBH due to the amount you use, best to just go with GW's. I know their gear can sometimes seem expensive, but a pot would last you a long time, unless you paint whole suits of armour in it. Not like the crackly base paint stuff, waste of money that one, but this is simply not worth the effort of fiddling about.

And I totally feel you on the meds front, going through similar, please remember you are an amazing guy, and a damn sight stronger than you think. Chin up mucker.
